The (1) that I found after a national search was very tempting, I believe that it was around 27 grand with 70K miles. Definitely a car on my personal want list...in dark blue.

not too super-exotic, but how about a 2008 Bullitt 'stang? only 8000 made, some great but subtle upgrades over a GT, and they're sitting right at $18 to $20k. modern enough to be fun and reliable, and they've got real performance from the factory upgrades. when you're done having fun, sell it for what you paid, because they aren't devaluing at all.
i love that highland green paint and the debadging. just a really handsome car.

This gets my vote. Awesome car. Are they really still int he $18-20k range? Wow, that's big money for a 5-6 year old Mustang
Some other special cars can include:
Volkswagen Phaeton W12
BMW 850i with a 6-speed
E34 M5
Some auto journalists liked the Phaeton over all other luxury cars. They didn't sell because of the VW badge.

The price is what kept us from getting an R63. We ended up with a R350 with all of the AMG "stuff" on it. For covering lots of miles with 6 people it is very nice.

yeah they're still pretty $$, but the way i look at it...as long as you don't plan to keep the car forever (and not many of us do), you're pretty much gonna get all, if not close to your money back later in resale. its one of the most desirable special edition mustangs in a long time and the market reflects that. from my research it seems like you have a lot of older owners too (who have nostalgia for the movie) so the cars stay relatively pampered.
the bullitt is basically exactly how i'd modify a GT, plus that awesome special edition green paint you can't get anywhere else. its a bucket list fun car for me some day.

I was curious so I did a 500 miles from NJ search on Autotrader.
11 manual transmission Bullitts; 2 under $20K. Most low-mid 20's. A couple of very low mileage cars in the upper 20's.
A BMW 850CSi is an interesting option, although functionally there would be a fair amount of overlap with the 911.
Are you still getting the C7 without the callaway stuff? Or is the whole deal dead? Since you have 18k to spend I'm thinking that was your deposit on the callaway portion, but that still leaves the c7 floating out there unless you're just killing the new car idea all together and saving the coin.

We had a 1997 840ci for ~1 year. Sold it last year. Wouldn't own another.

This should sort itself out in the next couple of days. Of course I've been saying that for a week so......
E60 BMW M5. The one with the V10 and a proper manual. The oldest ones look to be in the mid 30's and my wife expressed great joy at the thought of one. Any thoughts on the care and feeding of these when used as street cars?

I wouldn't touch one without a warranty. One of the most complicated machines ever--- and not in a good way. Fantastic engine and chassis--- miserable technological overload. I never thought I could hate a 500hp car....until I drove a V10 M5. Granted the ones I've driven have been flappy paddle semi autos--- the manual would certainly help. The least intuitive electronic package I've ever experienced. They make me want to tear my hair out.
The "active" bolsters in the seats are also creepy. (like being hugged by a robot)
Some folks like them though, so YMMV.

YouTube that car with aftermarket exhaust. I know different folks like different engine sounds, but that car, with the right exhaust, sounds spine tingling cool!
