I stumbled upon this car on Fairfield County Craigslist. I've never heard of them before.

CL Link

For sale is a federally-legal 25-year exemption 1989 Nissan March Super Turbo. Let me first and foremost say, this is a project car for somebody. It needs some work and I would not recommend it as a daily driver in its current condition.

The most pressing concern is the paint, there are a couple rust spots on the hatch spoiler mounts. Otherwise, it is in decent shape on the rest of the car. There are a couple dings and scratches here and there, but nothing unusual for its age.

The interior is relatively clean, but the dashboard wiring is in need of organization and clean up, though entirely functional. The power windows do not work. The Recaro seats are worn on the shoulder bolsters.

The car seems to be mostly stock, with the exception of some LED fog lights on the front bumper, some aftermarket BBS style wheels, blue mudflaps and, for extra horsepower, a fake front-mount intercooler. That's right.

These are relatively rare, being both turbo and supercharged, and this is a neat little car, but it needs some TLC to bring it back to its former glory. It is driveable as is, but not practical for daily use, especially with no power steering.

The car has 146,000 km which equals about 91,000 miles. It was imported legally and I have all the paperwork to verify. This car is 50-state federally-legal. You can register, insure and drive it just like any other car. No loopholes required.

The car is located in Fairfield for viewing, I work in Westport during regular business hours. I am asking $6,500 for the car or best reasonable offer. Please be respectful of my time, and I will be respectful of yours. No bank wires or money orders, cash or verifiable bank check only. Text only please, I have a busy 9-5 job, a wife and two young children.

Seems to be a real thing - based on the Micra: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Micra

Sadly, or ironically, or both, its 108 hp just doesn't compete nowadays, especially since it's both turbo'd and SC'd. Yeah, it's only one liter, but still. I imagine parts sourcing has got to be a problem.

Man that is so cool. The issue I have is right hand drive. That gets old in a hurry for any kind of regular use.

They sold tons of Micras in the U.K. Not sure if they sold this little guy though.

In reply to nutherjrfan:

Nope, that's a JDM-only model.

Does he want 5.5k or 6.5k? I'd pay $3k absolute tops as a Nissan fan. I think it might sell quicker in Australia going by an old conversation.

Did they sell any of these in the US? I don't get how it's legal here in Cali.

If "March Super Turbo" isn't the most '80s japanese car name, I don't know what is.

Watch the old Mighty Car Mods episodes about this one... as I recall he had to turn to a eccentric eggheaded guru of March Super Turbo's to get it back running (the FSM, parts catalog were undecipherable for a non-Japanese person). I love the look of it, but can't imagine how hard it would be to keep a 25 yr old twin charged vehicle in good running order.

It's not. Period. It's federally legal but not CARB legal.

Seems like it's be a lot of fun to own until something breaks.

If I had a micra it would get a sr20ve swap, but that thing is still really cool because it exists. That was some high tech stuff for the era. They weigh next to nothing so it still must scoot along pretty well.

Did they really come with that wing tho?

So you essentially just want a Pulsar GTiR then?

I'm guessing that someone added the wing and the Subaru hood scoop. Subarus didn't even have scoops that big in 1989.

this is what the march should look like from the front

And this is the GTiR's scoop

which, btw, is on BaT

I like the GTiR's after seeing a few at an SR20 Convention at Roebling Road a few years ago. Prior to that, I had never heard of them!

In reply to MrChaos:

Ha yeah I have lusted for many years over said car

But I do like the idea of keeping it light and fwd too. There was a guy across the pond that swapped a n/a sr20ve into one but last I read he had some unknown handling trouble and put it into a wall.

GTI-R's have SR20DET's with ITBs in the intake manifold like a GTR.

March Super Turbo's are awesome and make the craziest shriek under boost. When the turbo kicks in, the supercharger dies off and it hits like a stock FD with the sequential turbos pick up.

I remember in high school playing them on GT2 and then got to ride in one about 5 years ago.

This one in the ad though looks pretty suspect. I'd love a stock one but this one with its sort of riced out body makes me worry about what else was going on with it. It still has the factory TMIC so is there plumbing to that front mount or.....?

Regardless, BA little cars.
