I found a 98 BMW M3 sedan for sale, it suppose to be rust free Nevada car sitting in a storage garage in New Castle. Has 178,xxx miles the owner replaced water pump and thermostat. 2 years ago replaced Right front caliper replaced , trans and diff fluid. Needs rear tires, trailing arm bushings, and coil plug, and has a slow power steering leak somewhere. What is strange is that he refuses to give me the Vin Number, I explained to him, I just want it to check the history and make sure that it is actually a M3 and not some clone. My intentions is to have a cheap summer car for a few months, of a vehicle that I always wanted to own. Any advise on what to look for? He told me he was available after midnight???? Serial Killer?
Definitely serial killer.
Tell him 1AM is fine because that is when you are out in the patrol car anyway and you and your partner can just drop in and check it out.
How cheap is cheap? That would be the biggest red flag for me.
Now that my 15-year old is starting to look at cars for sale, I had to have the talk with him that, no, you can't buy a 2014 Ford Raptor for $2424.....

In reply to rob_lewis: it's $5k, but he is open to offers.
That doesn't sound cheap enough.
I wouldn't bother with any car that the owner won't give you the VIN# on.
Plus anyone who only wants to meet after midnight goes instantly into my "axe murderer" status.
Pfft. Go for it! What could go wrong?

I wouldn't buy a car from anyone so cheap that they replaced ONE caliper. Probably has Wanli tires and the engine has lived on a diet of whatever 87-octane swill was cheapest on GasBuddy that day and $2.19 SB-rated Big Lots oil if it ever actually got changed. Probably the cheapest organic brake pads from Autozone too, after price-matching against some no-name eBay reseller.
I think he's a serial killer living in his moms basement in fact I wouldn't even give him your phone number for all you know he's trying to find out as much as he can about you so he can stalk you and gun you down in the street
I don't know if I'd peg him as a serial killer, but I have learned the hard way - twice - that there are few things more expensive than cheap, poorly maintained BMWs. With a list of problems like that, it's virtually guaranteed you're only seeing the tip of the iceberg.

I still think he's a serial killer
An E36 M3 with a power steering leak?! No way! 5k probably means it needs about 5k$ in repairs. I'd stear clear, I don't believe in BMWs that cheap.
