Damn I was hoping that that I would actually have A/C in this car... How hard is it to covert to the later A/C system?

Not sure about converting, here are some links to "evil servo" info.

The really cool manual climate control was in my German market W116.

I second the 911-style build thread, do it!

What a deal. I usually get mine for $500

I will try to do a 911 restro style thread but I am really bad about updating my build threads as evidenced by my Yugo build thread. I have done a decent amount of work but haven't updated it. LOL.

So I went and moved in into the workshop Saturday and took some pictures. (I will add them later). The odometer says 63,xxx miles which I can believe looking at the interior. Also found out it is a bitch to push and it has the original first aid kit with what look like the original bandages.

Cool score. I bet its gonna be sweat having a good DD for the price of 2 "regular" car payments.

Ok so pictures!

Air bag rear suspension? That's got to go.

Paint on the door isn't great but I do have the trim for it.

Hard to see but totally sweet headliner.

It is a big car but it is dwarfed by a Plymouth Fury.

May need new driver's seat.

The mighty 5-cylinder N/A diesel.

Back seat in good shape.

Sweet manual sunroof

Cracks on dash

Don't know if this is true or not.

The rear end suspension is hydraulic. There is a reservoir and engine driven pump under the good and a valve connected to the rear axle. It is actually a good system and will level the car even with the heaviest loads in the back. Kits are available to rebuild the valve which leaks pressure and lets the rear sag. I don't think there is an easy way to eliminate the system, it's probably easiest to just repair it.

Your shop may be one of the coolest ones I've seen on here yet.

I once put a fully dressed Ford 302 in the back of mine. The rear end was sagging pretty bad until I started it up then it leveled right out.

I got the throttle linkage back together and found some bolts to put the oil pan back on. I am going to pour some cheap oil in it and see what happens when I try to start it. I found out that it will probably be cheaper just to swap turbodiesel in then add the turbo stuff to a non-turbo. Check the electrical stuff. It all seems to work except the rear driver's side window and there is no antenna. Also the car has the world's most annoying buzzer. The car does have something I have never seen on a car before. You can turn on only one side's parking lights on at a time.

More pics.

Hatch area with my homemade hatch prop. That hatch is a heavy son of a bitch.

Original first aid kit.

Tell me more about the one-sided parking light...

Totally Gel-Us by the way!

It's a German thang. Push down the turn signal after the car is off, and it lights the marker lights on that side, without blinking. My E46 and my boss's Touareg both do it.

Is that by design? A European thing? I found out something interesting on my Opel GT last fall at a car show. With the key out of the ignition and in my pocket, if you turn the left turn signal on the left parking lights and turn signal will come on. Doesn't do it with the right turn signal, only the left. Found out it is supposedly a European thing and is supposed to do that. It has amazed me about the electronics and lights on this car after I rewired a lot of it and cleaned everything else up. The headlights and taillights come on when you roll the headlights over when the engine is running and only when the engine is on and headlights open. Again, found out that's the way it's supposed to work. Never did before, had to roll the headlights over and turn on the light switch to get headlights. Found out the light switch only does parking lights.

The parking light feature is to allow you to illuminate a light on the travel lane side of the car when it's parked on a dark street or side of the road. The idea is it makes the car visible and reduces the chance of being sideswiped. Not sure of the merits when the car is standing alone, but it's a nice enough idea when it's parked in a row with other vehicles.

Thank you! Do you know why? Since it's intentional, it must serve a purpose but I can't thnk of one!

EDIT: Thank you, conesare2seconds! I posted the above before I saw the explaination.
