How many miles would be considered too many for an 03' CVPI? I just came across one online with 146k, being sold by the state so I assume it was recently retired from service. Anything in particular that should be looked at on higher mile crown vics? How well does the transmission fare?

Fine if they're serviced. Pull the stick to find out.

That'd be a good car for the right money. Me, I'd want to pay under 2500 for one with that many miles. Unless it's haggard, and then even less.

Axles could be shot on an 03 with that many miles. I think there's a recall though. Otherwise I can't think of anything.

Barely even broken yet. There's thousands of CV's with 300,000 still on the original engine and trans.

patgizz, Flush the fluid with the correct synthetic Mercon V and change the filter. The 4R70W will burn the fluid if abused, but it won't actually puke the trans (unless you leave the toasty fluid in there).

.

i had an austin yellow cab driver come in to buy an idler arm. i mentioned that i didnt expect that car to have one (recirculating ball), and he said "oh, yeah all of em. they need to be replaced about every 150-175k. this is my third replacement"

to help you with the math, thats 4 idler arms worth, which would mean at least 450,000 miles of almost all city driving.

Is there an easy way to identify the P71 model...if say perusing for such an item on CL?
