So I bought a 2008 Miata tonight. When I got home the radiator cap was leaking. I found the reservoir, at the cap, was disintegrating. I bought a new one from my trusty dealer.
Question is: is there anything else I should look for on this generation car? It has the retractable hardtop too.
That's one of the biggest issues. They sell an aluminum one, but your new one should last a few years.

Exactly this. Lucky you caught it while at home and not out on the road some where. Aluminum after market much better but you are good to go with a new OE. I think that's one of the few issues with that year Miata. Maybe Keith can jump in here.
Aluminum is definitely better, not legal in autocross Street class. I know, doesn't make sense, but that's the rule.
Thanks, I was hopeful Mazda would come through. This ones going to my daughter in Houston.
My kids NC prht was reliable and fun. Basically gas and oil for 3 years. Bought used with a salvage title.
Top leaked a bit so check drains and such
This one spent a bunch of time garaged. She had this in the garage with it

waiting for your build thread on this
Its built, has sat a minute and needs the carbs gone thru. There is a test run stand with a built corvair motor on it too. She also has a 1990 miata hardtop stick the there as well.
Get your projects going, life is finite...

I think the other issue I've heard of with the early NCs is that the ignition coil wiring tends to get brittle.
