Heh....  You made me think of taking the shift lever with you, but I had another thought.

If the parking brake works, roll under the truck, pop the (automatic) shifter cable off, and flip the transmission lever all the way back the other way.  Not too many people screw around with the shifter when trying to start, and they'd probably start looking for a kill switch instead of the shift linkage when the starter fails to engage.

At least, you can pop a Chevy truck's shift cable off with a screwdriver, can't remember if you can with a Ford or if you need actual tools.
