Mine hasn't started yet but coughed twice last night. Hope to start it tonight and break in the cam. I still need to fab the boost pipe to the carb, add shifter, trans cooler, wiring, seat mount, body, paint, tires etc. This one is going to be close, if I don't finish it I will probably drive down and watch anyway (from Ohio)

Also, I'm still pulling the thing apart, swapping in cheaper stuff in the place of parts which pushed it over budget. Thinking about painting the car in the hotel parking lot, throw down some tarps, crack a beer and go to town with tempera paint.

In. I'm assuming we're talking about the mighty durocco here?

Yes indeed, the stinky scirocco of old is finally making the trek to Gainesville. I hope to get in at least one autocross run before something goes bang.

We know the feeling. We are not even close to the first start.

I KNOW YOU!

You used to be that girl in high school who would complain before every test, "Oh, I'm so dumb, I don't know anything, I didn't study, Blah, Blah, Blah, I'm so dumb..."

Come the actual test, she'd hand the test in in 5 minutes, get an "A", and spend the rest of the time putting reinforcements on her looseleaf.

She's come back in the body of an uber-cool drag racer!

Ours is about 12 hours of work closer to running and being on the ground. Thanks Derrick!

Had a good weekend with the car it starts, runs, steers and stops now. I just need to finish the body and paint, lights, horn, and boost piping. It looks like it will make it but all of the tuning for boost is going to be done in my driveway.

After a marathon run the last few days, I was able to drive mine around the neighborhood yesterday. We still have a ton to do and as always, we'll be working up to the moment it goes on the trailer, but at least it's a functioning car at this point.

We've made SOME progress over the last week but we have an E36 M3 load left to do. One week until we leave...holy !!

Dave welding up the turbo manifold from a stock manifold and some Dodge 442 (is that right Greg?) header.

Dave made a pretty sweet wheel adapter from scrap metal and the center of the stock wheel plasma cut out.

I might never have bought this car if I had realized beforehand that it actually contained shudder lucas electronics... Anybody know the part number for all that smoke I lost?

I'm juggling a handful of issues but will make it one way or another. Mental preparations have begun via netflix: Death Race 2000, Initial D, Bullitt, Fast and Furious, Greased Lightning, Heart like a wheel... even made it through Love the beast.

Good luck everyone, see you all soon

Well, my $2010 Mazda 323 GTX survived four days of my commuter driving...kind of....

The two biggest problems Saturday morning were the screaming alternator (bad bearing) and the non-functioning temp gauge. Some of those little leaks turned out to be a weepy water pump and a bump distributor o-ring. Oi. Glad I didn't sell the old engine...

In other news, while the temp sensor wiring looked okay, it completely disintegrated when we moved it to remove the distributor. Ah, so THAT was the problem!

I just need to get the wheels aligned, invest in some duct tape and zip ties, and I hit the road Wednesday. :D

The 5.0 miata started coughing last night. Will run on Ether but not on its own. Getting fuel to the rail but the injectors do not appear to be firing. Still needs a driveshaft, exhaust and a bunch of little things.

Cage is in so at least the driver will be safe if we have to push it through the concourse.

Manifold is looking good! Nice to see another chunk of that 440 header getting used but it needs more basketball hoop.

Thanks we will look into that. Both the miata and 5.0 harness were hacked up when we got it so there is a good deal of guess work going on.

Another 5 hours tonight. The injectors still wont fire. As far as I can tell we ruled out everything in the "why wont my 5.0 start FAQ threads"

12V power to the injectors, grounds are good, 40psi fuel pressure. TPS in range, swapped in another distributor (to see if the PIP was bad). Pretty much everything we can think of.

Greg, take the leads off a multimeter electrical tape em to a 9volt battery. Test your injectors. They should click when they are removed from the harness and you apply current. You likely know this but its easy to forget the obvious stuff.

Yeah we checked the to make sure they can fire. They just aren't being told to. Trying to figure out why is the problem. Wading through all the mustang forums and filtering the info is also pretty daunting with only a couple prep days left.
