Maybe, I was thinking the same thing (If I would have gotten it done last year like planned I would have been unique). I'll be using Subaru power, and the other guy is as well, so if thats your route then you aren't unique there either. Will be fun to see them all there. I am jealous of your flares though.
I just heard that we'll have a new trophy to award this year.
RacingJunk.com is sponsoring the "Junk to Jewel" trophy; it will be awarded to the team that uses RacingJunk.com the most, or most creatively, to build their car.
Wrench on, soldiers!

please put a picture up when you pull em, I love seeing the result of excessive boost, makes me want to crank our controller up
I think last weekend solidified my plans for the Challenge. So far, it's fast, it's cheap, it's fast, it turns, it's fast, it's a dodge and it's fast. And it's not the Shadow.
Steve, Rob and I are starting to work on the 5.0 Miata we picked up off the 2010 Classifieds a couple weeks ago. Figured out the mounting and at least where the headers will run. Now a whole lot of wiring and trying to figure out some rear end stuff and get it running.

Please tell me something extraoridarily cool was happening right before catastrophic failure; i.e. "Yeah, we put down 299 hp on the dyno at 24 PSI, but at 25...." or "We ran an 11.01 at 24 PSI, so we figured...."
Working on trophies and T-shirts now (no major changes there...)
Has everyone made their hotel reservations? That block at BWGG sells out pretty quickly.

Not quite like that. It certainly went out in a ball of fun, though. That little turbo spools so fast, we would hit 24-25 psi by the end of a 5-cone slalom.
As it turns out, the "stumble" we'd had all along wasn't the distributor or anything like that, it was the knock sensor stepping in for detonation. As per Adam's recommendation, I pulled about half a degree of timing where we were having the (consistent) issue. Was running stronger than she ever had before. Three runs later, it blowed up. It was over 5K, though, and it had never detonated that high. Near as I can figure, pulling the timing raised combustion temperatures just enough to blow it the berkeley up.
Live and learn.

Haven't pulled the bottom end apart, but here's the #3 cylinder. I'd say we've found something JB Weld can't fix.
Time to throw a stock short block in there and run her til she blows again. Maybe we'll have time to build another Vitara block, but money's getting really tight.

OOPS!!! Got any spare blowed up engines around to scrounge pistons out of?

DOH!
Not sure what we're going to do short-term, we're (read: I'm) pretty broke right now. There are a lot of broken dreams of the forged variety on D-series right now, I need to track down our old budget and see how much we can spend exactly on this rebuild.

Is there a registration deadline? Not seeing it on the main challenge page?
In other news, just sold the Webers that came with the 914 for $350, oh yeah!
I plan to be there with a small block chevy powered 280Z. Never autocrossed before so I figure to masacre some cones and go after it in the drags which the car is well suited for.

due to some unforeseen time issues, family reunions, a new fetish for hpde, and a missed left turn in Albuquerque, it looks like the spider will need to wait one more year. while we are pretty bummed to miss it, ..... just think of what we can do with that extra dollar!
cant wait to see the follow up thread!
Some shiny happy person tried to break into my saab over the holiday. They bent up some trim and broke the driver's side rear fixed window. I'm over budget and over my head...
On a more positive note, the car is much easier to launch with the AC on full blast and I only get a minor chirp into third...

I believe if you take this block out, you get to remove the money you spent on it from the budget. You probably already knew that, but just sayin'.
It's blowed up. You get a new block. You don't put both blocks in budget.
Wasn't this already a Vitara build?

THAT SUCKS!!!!! God, I hate thieves.

Oddly, nothing was actually stolen... the fire extinguisher, first aid kit and old school rap cds all are still there...
Ultimately, I can accept that a hole in the window is no big deal compared to a hole in a piston... but dammit that WAS the good side! These windows seem to be costly and rare, time to diy some lexan...
Our room is booked! Also, I'm pretty excited, because it seems that we'll have two more helping hands on the team this year. Two more (maybe three!!!) of our friends wanted to come down and see what the Challenge is all about. Now, we need to get wrenching on the car!
I was shocked you guys ran stock rods and vitara's. After disassembling my D16Z6 and seeing the rods I scoured the earth and got a smokin deal on some tuner toys rods and vitara's.. I think the stock block record is now over 650whp..
