Yeah, we effed up our cheap Ebay manifold pretty bad. Besides the obvious chunk missing, it cracked pretty much everywhere there was a weld
Hah, I just got the ebay manifold back on the Phostiva after having pretty much the same thing happen. Big hole in #3 and all of the flange welds cracked about 3/4 of the way around. I tried getting the seller to send me another (after 2 years lol) but it didn't happen. Luckily I have a friend with a TIG that can be used for the cost of a $5 burrito lunch special :)
I'd like to make another trip back but I'm getting married 10/16 and am short on funds since we're paying for it ourselves and none of the other TX team Phostiva guys will be able to make the trek...

Yeah, we already welded the thing once, so we weren't about to do it again.
And I'll be in the same boat for next year's challenge regarding the wedding stuff. Ours is looking to be on October 8th, so either it will be during or right after the challenge.
Finished putting the paint of the HK-R Mustang. It officially has 2 horse power. Well it has a horse painted on each side. The paint is a copy of the Tim Allen Saleen Mustang. But Tim's had More Power. :)
Calling out for some help at the Challenge. We (the Nelson clan) have always traveled to, and participated in races as a tribe. However, this year we have a logistical issue. Cameron (our oldest) starts college this fall and he has Friday and Monday classes. I am thinking about flying him down and back. Is there a good airport to fly him into (close to where someone is traveling to/from)? Is there anyone who can pick him up on Friday and bring him to the hotel? And, more importantly, can someone get him to and though an airport on Sunday? He has no experience traveling by air. And we will be pulling a trailer (42' nose to tail). Also, we have to leave early Sunday in order to get a another fam member home from NC, and to a Doctor appointment on Monday.

Psah... just have him tell the professor that he's going to the challenge. That should count as out of class experience.

Come on, Andy! You know you got people!!
Picking him up Friday at GNV will not be a problem. My family will be at the track, and my wife may be looking for an excuse to go somewhere else!
I'd be happy to get Cameron through GNV Sun mid morning, but I suspect some of the Gainesville guys will also step up.
Consider yourself covered.
I could also get him to Valdosta GA early afternoon, or Albany GA mid afternoon.
Were you thinking about GNV, or a bigger airport?
Andy,
The GNV airport is great. I fly in/out of it almost weekly now (as a Gainesville resident). If you book soon, you might be able to get a decent rate. The next best option would be the JAX airport. It's ~80 miles NE of the Gainesville raceway and on the way for any going north on I-95.
If the need is to get him to the airport on Sunday, I'm sure one of us Gainesville GRMers can handle that.
Sanford fl airport is also an option be nice to get intouch with Capt John Travolta fly into Ocala
I second flying into/out of GNV. It's not that much more than flying through Jacksonville and it's a lot more convenient.

Thank you
Yep, between the lot of us from here or visiting here we can definitely make it happen.
The beast RUNS AND DRIVES!
We got her back on the ground for the first time in over a year yesterday! Finished up the bare essentials for driving (illegally) on the road around my house, got a good baseline tune in MS and off we went for a tuning run! Got a few decent runs recorded, didn't hear any horrible noises, brakes worked, and we didn't even get arrested by the nice police officer man that OF COURSE was driving through my neighborhood at the precise moment we were driving our very gutted, very loud, and very not registered or insured vehicle on public roads.
So I'd consider it a big success! Just a few more punch-list items and we will give it a proper shake down this weekend at our BMW CCA autoX!
In reply to miatame:
NICE!!! I can't wait to see this thing! Last I saw it, it was very much stock.

I think the axle will rip out before your shock mount brackets do! They are actually perfect. I'm in the middle of making a pair of used TRD Tacoma Bilstein shocks work. It should allow good movement of the axle while keeping it planted (hopefully). And at only 20 bucks they are cheaper than any stock shock I could find!
Hey related question...if we are running newish stock pads and rotors on a different axle than stock do we need to include it in our budget? Keep in mind the stock axle didn't have disk brakes.

I'd say yes.
If the car didn't have disk brakes originally, then you have upgraded the braking system.
OK but if I use the rotors that came with the axle then that's $0 right? It didn't have pads so I'll have to include that. This is all what I figured anyway since I have only just recently discovered that replacing stock rotors and pads (with same) are not part of the budget.

The axle (and rotors, springs, brackets, or any other piece that came with them) gets priced at what you paid for it (the total package). If you add new pads that are not comparable to the ones that were original, they also get budgeted at whatever you paid for them.
Tempted fate, and made my hotel reservations today. I've got one or two more evenings of working on the exhaust, then probably a couple more days before I can try to test fire the engine. With any luck, everything'll work, and it'll be running and ready to get tagged next weekend.

I need to publicly thank forum regular IT'S A TRAP for hooking me up with a sweet deal on some parts to keep my in the game. His recently departed saab will live on just a little longer through donating some parts to my challenger.
All this for $15! I do not even know what some things are!
So I had to replace both rear quarter windows so I the tint matches on both sides and I do not have the skills to fix the bent metal, but I am at least now again track legal.

Well done! If I do not head out to the vinyard this weekend I might try to get to devens so drop me an email if you are definitely going.

Will do. Hopefully the wheels don't fall off, literally... They are neither hub or lug centric! yay! Let's just hope we can torque them and it stays that way.
I'm out.
Closing date on the house falls way too close to the Challenge.

It is a shame that your schedule will not allow you to come, I was definitely looking forward to seeing that mazda run...
Look at the bright side, a whole 12 more months to polish things up and a whole dollar more for the budget...
