Not only is it officially official, but I actually saw one on the road in Oshawa about ten days ago. With the top up, the profile is almost exactly the same as the coupe.
The new Camaro looks great as a convertible. Can't believe how long it has taken to be released. I'm glad they didn't scrap the project when the original top builder filed for bankruptcy.
Uninteresting backstory: In 2006 I was interviewing for a cost control / engineering liaison position with the original top supplier in the Detroit area. After about 5 rounds of interviews I was told it was for the new Camaro convertible. Even got to see a body in white they had in their development area. Long story longer, they eventually offered me a managerial position in part and assembly quoting and I turned it down due to having recently taken a position with another company in Chicago. Now, everyone I ever talked to at that company is gone since they filed for bankruptcy in 2009.
