Team External Combustion will be back next year. Like Miatame said, the Cherokee will probably make it back, and in complete, tuned form! We have a few other vehicles at our disposal that could easily be prepped for Challenge duty. I personally might not be able to go (getting married around Challenge time, so it depends on what weekend it is) but our team will be there. And if I'm not there next year, you can bet on me being there at the $2012 Challenge.

Also, I hope we have better tow vehicles!!! Our stupid unreliable Suburban is one scary beast to drive!!! I honestly can't believe we made it home alive.

Yeah, that's pretty rad.

I like those 442's! Word to the wise: ditch that POS 403 if you expect to be able to compete at the Challenge. Windowed mains + cheap power adders that are popular with us GRM guys and gals = certain catastrophe! But then again, if you're going for the Most Spectacular Failure award, you'll have a lock on it!

Selling? Might it survive a drive to Texas?

Of course- everything is for sale!

It would survive a drive to Texas, if it had a working carb.

Man first he inspires some never competed before board member to make a sticker, now he has a hairdo named after him. The clowns helmet size is going up.

Wheels/Andy kept having some sort of verbal seizure and would randomly yell out "mullet". Since I don't have a mullet we had to name it so someone at the table called it a Guido... Now Andy calls it a Guido mullet.

Thursday morning we found a really cool sticker on Uranus. It was the Bully Dog logo/dog with a clown head in his mouth. Great stuff! Thanks!!

When we got home we found black caulk in Uranus, we're still airing it out... thanks Poop

That, the Haas boys' '49, and the slammed turbo Cherokee are truly an inspiration to build something slightly ridiculous. Tough finding time between all the other projects. The focus shifted to LeMons this year, but both those cars are DONE.
It is a huge compliment coming from you. I want to see that Festiva win it all like the Superturd should have in '07. If all you guys don't mind we'd like to bring the Cherokee back in '11 with a few new twists and a turbo that is (SHOCKING) installed BEFORE the event and actually tuned. I can't believe we have to wait a whole year! We had so much fun this year. I can't wait until October 2011!

You're a b*tch if you don't! Thanks for the kind words. I guess the 'turd is "old hat" now. Time to step it up a bit. The Cherokee really was phenomenal, and was one of those that while driving through the parking lot, made us realize the bar had been raised!!! Great job, d00ds. Glad you brought home some hardware!

Holy crap. I've been playing with D's for a while. Gotta admit, I've never seen that happen to an aftermarket rod.

When I put it together 2 years ago I questioned my TQ wrench. There was always 1 rod that would never seem to TQ right - I though "F-It" and just put it togehter. It looks like it was too tight , the heat marks suggest it was a loss of oil.

Thankfully - used vitara's and Tuner toys rods ran me only $150.

When it blew I pooped my pants - I am just happy this time around we finished the event!

Next time, measure the bolt stretch on the rod bolts. It's more reliable than torque. A decent set of Micrometers will be precice enough for that.

Anybody in the general Birmingham, AL area (within a short drive) building a car that would like another set of hands on their 2011 build? Send me a PM.

Want to come out for a couple of build weekends?

Once the car is built, I'll reciprocate by trailering it to B'ham for test and tunes.

It's funny, on Monday, after driving home for 14 hours the day before, I was thinking I was burnt out and would probably take a break for a while. Here it is Thursday and the burnout is already fading,

I'll definitely be back. Need to think about what to build though.

"Man, I'm pretty burnt out on this E36 M3. It's a tremendous amount of work for a car that you can't really do anything with once the event is done.

Yeah, and we really should've beaten team so-and-so. Their car was a piece of E36 M3. How the berkeley did they manage to beat us in the concours? We could build something way cooler than that.

Hey, did you every do anything with that (car 'X') you had sitting in your yard? Holy berkeley. We could stuff a (motor 'Y') in that pig in a weekend. I bet we could squeeze out (insert radically inflated HP #) and be under (insert physically impossible weight.) That berkeleyer would handle AND run a berkeleying 10 in the drags! And E36 M3! We could paint it to look just like the (insert recognizable car from 70's.) That'd get us top 3 in the concours for sure!!!

Hey, what are you doing this weekend? We're gonna get an EARLY start this year. Hell, if we work (unlikely amount of hours) every weekend, we could have that bitch done before auto-x season starts! Yeah. We're gonna WIN next year!"

You forgot the last few lines...

"Damn, it's getting cold out here. We've got plenty of time. Let's go out and grab a beer. We can get started when the snow melts."

6 months later....

"E36 M3. It's July and we haven't started yet. Everyone comes to my house (insert ridiculous number of nights per week) and we'll work till (insert a time way too late) and we can crank it out in no time. We'll even get some testing done this year."

Two days before the challenge.....

"We're almost done. I hope it starts."

Day before challenge....

"Why won't this berkeleying thing start! I'm done with this E36 M3. This is my last challenge!"

I'll be back - on the drive home was thinking what I needed for the next challenge. Trailer and rv would be handy. Interesting, wacky pit transpo - cycle kart out of my kaw 250??? More than 1 day to drive home or at least not work on Monday. Oh yeah, and a challenge car that didn't come out of the carribean cruise line fleet - was fun anyway - although you guys might have ruined me - can't bring myself to focus on work quite yet.
