2013 VW Passat lighting weirdness - intermittent marker light

The car is a 2013 VW Passat TDI. The problem is an odd one - sometimes the passenger side corner light is out. And sometimes it isn't. When it is out, the trip computer will turn on a warning light and give a message. But then when I get a chance to look at it, the light is back on like nothing happened. Anyone seen this sort of weirdness and have a good suggestion for where to look first?

Shorts in lighting systems often cause weird issues like this because they're connected to the gauge cluster in some way, it could be the bulb or wiring shorting out intermittently, first of all you could try throwing a new bulb at it.
