GNX will make 400 if the article is correct, plus it's a GM. There WILL be performance options over and above whats on the lot.

alfadriver wrote: But it is fascinating to hate a company who makes a performance car. why, I just can't figure.

Don't hate GM at all, but fail to see why they would even bother doing this to a 4 door sedan. There is a good reason that the original, the Camaro, the Vette, Mustang, etc. are all 2 dr cars. This car will be a total non-event from a sales standpoint because of it.

Why, I don't know what you mean. Afterall, the G8 GXP was a great car and sold like hot cakes. Ok, it was a great car...On the other hand, the GTO didn't wasn't that big of a success either, so who knows...

I was looking for a GTO when I was car shopping back in 2005......moron dealers told me flat out I couldn't even order a manual, but they had a few autos they could give me a "great deal". When the G8 came out in 06-07, I was ready to trade in my new car for it.....again, manual was the equivalent of a unicorn or bigfoot. Hopefully this idiocy doesn't happen for this.

I hope it doesn't come with a manual transmission, because we're already compromising on doors. Everything else must be exactly like the Grand National was decades ago.

Yes, because vehicles have not improved at all since the 80's. Hope they have a smog restricted carb, horrid brown/red interior and maybe, just maybe, that bitching betty that told you that the "DOOR IS AJAR" or "WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID IS LOW".

I would be very interested in one with a stick shift if I had the money for a new car, but it doesn't look like it will be in the 2015 budget.

I think the renderings are ugly, but I will hold judgement until I see one in the real world. And Grand Nationals never had V8's. They did however have turbo sixes. A non-turbo six, like the middle of the pack 3.6l offering, should not be allowed. I can deal with the turbo four.

Furthermore, GN's only ever came in two colors: Gray (in 1982) and black (1984-87). Other colors should be T-Types. And make it a two door! Why make another Caddy ATS? Inter-company redundancy is one of the reasons GM went bankrupt. Make something different.

Knowing GM, it will be half baked, no one will buy it, and they will axe it right when they start to get it right.

Hey, I'm not sure if you know this, but the GN/GNX never came with a v8.

The Buick muscle car from decades ago the GSX came with a 455.

For those who are overly sensitive to criticism of GM (what you call haters), this statement very accurately sums up one of the major reasons why people are skeptical about any new GM product. I don't think anyone can argue that the statement doesn't hold true most of the time. And just for the record, I am not calling Silverfleet a GM hater.

Unfortunately I believe you are right, I am a big GM truck guy, but when it comes to their car line, I have 0 faith.

Plans are in the works for an ATS Coupe. I can see a hot Buick version of this sporting the GN / GNX nameplate, but the name seems wasted on the 4 door.

A Grand National and especially a GNX should be a special car--- it needs to stand out in a crowd, and have little kids oohing and ahhing over it. It needs to be aspirational. That's very tough to pull off with a 4-door. About the only aspirational 4-doors that come to mind are BMW's M5 and the Subaru STI / Mitsu EVO. Sure there have been plenty of hot 4-door cars, but how many stopped people in their tracks? When new, the Grand Nationals ---- and especially the ultra-rare GNX's did that. I remember being in High School, and seeing a genuine GNX on the road---- it was an event. We actually followed the guy for a while hoping he'd get on it.

I love that GM is making a hot version of the Regal--- as the current platform is a very good one. I'm less enthused about them reviving a sacred nameplate for a car that isn't as much of a "halo" car as it should be. Cool car--- great concept, but I'd rather have them call it something else, and save the GN / GNX name for something truly different and special.

Keep in mind they only made 547 copies of the original GNX. I'd hate to have them revive that name for a mass-produced 4-door. They should save it for later--- when they have a truly special car to draw attention to.

The problem I have with this is not that they are making it but they are making it and not making it special. The original GN was a special car. This is really looking like an ATS with a buick nameplate. That is not special. I don't see anything here to really excite me.

If I wanted an ATS, I'll go get one. They aren't that expensive. I just don't what is going to make this any different from the rest of the Alpha Chassis line-up.

So all of the 4 door performance BMW's mean nothing? They seem to sell a lot of 4 door RWD performance based cars....

Or perhaps Mercedes- they, too, sell RWD 4 door performance-ish cars.

Both sell many fewer coupes.

This car does not need to be a Camaro or Mustang, it needs to be a 3 or 5 door competitor.

Now they just need to make a wagon too. Then make the V version, put a manual in it, and I'll collect the set.
