$2017 Budget Q

Over the last month I have been preparing for an ambitious project that I accept may go over my Challenge budget. If it does the car will still be built but I will take the finish a bit more seriously.

The only way I could possibly fit what I have and what I want under budget is to effectively trade the Renesis engine, harness, ECU, transmission and crossmember as a complete unit to someone looking to swap a rotary into an NC. FMV favors the rotary with similar miles so it's an option. This would essentially allow for a part down of the unnecessary bits of the RX8 to allow for the roughly $1000 in parts to create a 2.5L Turbo Sports Sedan.

So the questions really becone:

Does this jibe with your translation of the rules?

Do you know anyone wanting to swap a Renesis into their NC Miata?

Is that a North Carolina Miata?

So you want to trade your rotary drivetrain for an NC drivetrain? I know trade used to be a rules loophole but the new rules don't mention it except for "You may not factor gains or losses made from buying, selling, or trading unrelated parts into your budget".

I'm interested in the answer.

The Renesis is the rotary engine installed in the Mazda RX8.

Third gen Miata,

As far as a performance gain it's actually a regression going from the higher hp and rpm rotary to the 2.0l gas engine, but the basis for other improvements that eventually create more torque and useable power.

Although the new rules aren't out yet I believe trading was unlimited. Recoup didn't apply to trades.
