We will see how long we need before the ATF trick.

Doubt it. Too hard to make it pass emissions and they can't even get the diesel to pass US emissions yet.
I'm pretty sure the site they reference doesn't post anything but new RX car rumors. At least every time I see their name it's the only outlet saying ones coming.
Last time I saw actual numbers from Mazda they said they'd need to sell 100k rotaries to break even. That's a tough sell despite how much I love them.
I would dearly love to see it, but I think bringing another rotary-powered car to market would bankrupt Mazda. The last reliable RX was the Series 5, and they quit making those in 1992.
Perhaps they will release some sort of limited super expensive halo car (e.g. LFA).
As far as a general release, I think Mazda took a fatal final blow in regards to the rotary with the RX8. Even though its a great car, the issues they had only confirmed the taint against the rotary. Kind of like if the Fiat 500 had rust issues that they had to correct.
I'll believe it when it happens. So many fake supercar supras and all kinds of things like that already. How long as the new renesis by coming? Seems like a decade now.
likely based on the 1.6-liter 16X R-2 concept engine, will feature a capacitor-powered electric turbocharger for low end and a conventional exhaust-driven turbocharger for high rpm.
So in other words a fantasy car that will never touch a road or a supercar.
Be careful, all you naysayers. Mazda has surprised the motoring world more than once in its existence.

Dunno about the rotary, but electric turbochargers (electrochargers?) are on their way from OEMs if this Volvo concept 2.0L engine is anything to go by. Similar to the RX-7 article's speculations, the Volvo boinger has a electrically-driven turbo for low RPMs and two exhaust-driven turbos for mid-to-high RPMs. Oh, and it makes 450hp.

mazda said: Mazda has previously cited resistance to an after-treatment system like a diesel exhaust fluid that most vehicles of this type use in the U.S. to meet emissions standards in all 50 states. The company said in January it was working on balancing fuel economy with "Mazda-appropriate driving performance."
tl;dr Mazda cant make their diesel to meet emissions without def at the power levels they want.

My guess is 20-30 years.
What you did was, when you had an engine that sat for so long that the seals were stuck, you put some ATF in the engine and let it marinate for a few months.
Then some kiddie winkies got hold of the idea and decided that maybe putting ATF in their perfectly fine engine for a few minutes would also be beneficial.
