Between inflation and scope creep it was inevitable that someone would get there. I'll never have that sort of money but it seems that people out there do so this being 'Murica a manufacturer is ready to capitalize on that.
it's a third the price of my house... that's all I have because to think that a pickup could cost that much is just thinkable.

Fortunately your house doesn’t depreciate like a $100k truck.
It probably won’t drop as quickly as a $100k car, but it will probably still be a fairly steep slide.

Its 98% of my house. (yeah cheap housing market!)
And the dealers are salivating at getting them on the lot as they know they will be flying out the door as fast as they can ship them.

I would thank those buyers for the increase in my profit sharing check, but we don't get those increase in profits anymore.
Just for kicks, I started to 'build' an Escalade ESC and in three clicks I'm at $99,990. That's the long wheelbase suburban, with the top of the line trim Platinum Package, 4x4, and a $600 add for some fancy red paint. I didn't even get to the interior options.
In reply to STM317 :
I don't know, these things habe ridiculous towing capacities these days, and some people live small.
My house was 103k. I felt sick spending 44 on a truck(until the first time i towed a heavy load with it), can't imagine 94k. That's like all my cars added up with room to buy more. And no more capacity than the stripped down work version, just 40k more in doo-dads and silly crap one doesn't actually need to tow a 17k trailer

True, but if someone is expecting to be towing something 8+ hours on a regular basis, that extra 40k of stuff is going to make them a lot more happy / comfy.

Not quite apples to oranges, but I was told that many Lincoln Navigators leave the dealer with a price over $250USD in China where import tax is high. Lincoln is the fastest growing luxury brand in China right now.

Hey look, this is turning into one of those 'Modern Trucks are too expensive and have too much un-needed crap on them' threads, we haven't had one in a couple of weeks! Guess what. They sell and they sell well so people want them. We need to get over that and except that people buy what they want, and for some reason what they want is uber luxury pick up trucks. It's not your or my money so why do we care?

Not quite true. Automotive revenue, Operating margin and cash flow all factor into AICP

Inaccurate.

yes, but they use the excuse of not enough profits in the Fiesta ST to stop importing it. They can't move enough hot hatches to keep bring them in, but can sell every tarted up truck they can buy.
Maybe I am in the minority here, but except for a few glaring exceptions, I do not use a lot of the gimmicks new cars have. I use the sunroofs, heated seats, and stereo on my truck. I have not touched the power seats since getting them "just right" I always manually run the automatic climate control to either full on heat or nothing, and I think I have adjusted the mirrors a couple of times after people have bumped them. The rest are just fluff (to me) that I just do not need or even use.
Yeah, it's expensive... But if you're going to be spending hours and hours in it pulling your $100,000 5er around the country, all that comfort and bling might be worth it if you've got it to spend!

Right, and we really don't know what the actual targets are- so it's easy to say that during years that we had record profits that we didn't hit one or more targets. Which is incredibly frustrating- as all of that profit has to go someplace.
And we've had record years for a few years now, but are somehow in serious trouble again. WTF.
Doesn't surprise me at all, my non optioned (XLT) out F450 stickerd for 82k in 2008. Add leather and heated everything and it adds up. Crazy $$ still though.
Luxury pickups are like the best of all worlds. But, You gotta pay to have it like all things. And those loaded superduties are just ugh lovely to me. Most people will find them excessive, but they sure sell like heroin.

The Escalade came up while we were discussing this at my work too, and we realized that the Escalade is more expensive and less useful, which makes the F-350 seem a better deal. Escalade can carry a family, the F-350 can carry a family and tow your house around behind it.
