Antique, Vintage, and classic class. That will allow much older bodies that would normally wildly exceed entry budget. Simply exempt "value" of body. Base classification on age of powertrain, not body.. Bugeye Sprite with a Nissan engine from the mid 70's? Classic class. 1948 MGTC with MGB engine? Vintage, 1984 Corvette with Duesenberg straight 8? Antique. (OK Buick straight 8)
Diesels. Lots of interesting options that could get people outside their comfort zone.
Or, ya know, cabovers.

i mean the x90/sidekick/tracker/vitara/samurai are all banned by name in the scca rulebook
Brilliant! A sub-class for vehicles that are specifically banned by the SCCA, built to comply with SCCA rules. I would totally do that!

At the time of the XJ-R, the SCCA rulebook specifically named the Jeep Cherokee as a banned vehicle. Now, it is Challenge and all internet legend!

I FULLY support a vintage or classic theme. It would light a fire under my butt to get my TR4 down there for next year (if I can keep it under budget)
I am all for the ghettocet sub-class, I think if people looked outside of the typical Miata/Fiero realm some real beauties could emerge.

Forget k-cars, just a spec pizza cutter class- no tires wider than 175, no treadwear rating softer than 600
I would expect monstrous downforce and actively cooled tires

Malaise I would say is anything built from about 1972 to about 1984 or so. Big and ungainly with low horsepower from the factory. What better place to start a challenge build...
I would love a hot rod rat rod class.
Actually pretty much all of these ideas too

Actually more like a T25/T28 on that motor. :D Turbonium
Maserati bi-turbo subclass..
