I'm looking at 2006 Passat for my wife that has the 2.0T and a tiptronic 6 speed.
Does this engine respond as well to ECU mods like the 1.8T in the GRM on line article? What are the major differences? I'm pretty sure it's a DI engine.
Any info on experiences would be great...thanks
Suggest to walk away from the 2006. There is a little bit of issue concerning oil loss and a bunch of rattles and creaks that have been resolved during 2007.
Great driving cars but not so good on the wallet.
Overall I would love a 2.0T Passat wagon with the sport wheel package.
I would suggest checking the VW enthusiast forum for some good factual opinions by people that own them. You want to look at the Passat (B6) forum in the car models area under Volkswagen and also the 2.0T forum in the Technical forum area. Excellent web site!

The only problem with asking vw enthusiasts if you should buy a vw is that the majority opintion is that of course you should buy a vw, no matter what, you would have to e an idiot to drive anything else. lol
Seriously though, if the tiptronic is the same as the DSG transmision in the GTI I havent heard terribly good things about them.
Seeing that J.B. works behind a VW parts counter I'd trust his opinion on this more than a random "online enthusiast".

Worse yet I actually am a service writer for VW.
My bad, but gives you even more cred in this case!
As a former VW service manager: I would run, not walk, away from ANYTHING with that symbol stuck on it.
Oh come on Jens, they have many great products!
Give me a couple hours and I am sure we can come up with a list of one or two
