So, tomorrow I'm going to take a test drive of an 84 300zx 50th anni.
Basically THIS with an auto and 97000 miles instead of 31.
Old lady neighbor of my pops is selling, sounds like she wants $6,000 for it, but her alternative from what I've gathered is shipping it to Chicago (from WA) for her daughter so I'm fairly certain she'd go lower by a good chunk.
Worth thinking seriously about buying to turn around and make some dough on?
I'm uncharacteristically in a position to pony up for this.
Not familiar with the market for these things, but this one is super clean, immaculate interior, receipts for recent work, and a pile of spare parts (her hubby did all that before passing away last year)
How low do I need to get her to go if I want to come out ahead?
(Assuming of course, there's a market for this sort of thing)
Question Mark?

Whats special about the 50th anniversary model?
IIRC they also came with a viscous limited slip unit.

It came 50 years after the 1934 Datsun Type 13
That's the first model of car exported from Japan, and the first one produced by a company named Nissan. (The earlier two Datsun/Datson/Datsan* models were made by the DAT corporation, before it was absorbed in the merger that created nissan.)

I have no clue why people say the name was changed from "datson" to "datsun".....I don't think it was ever "datsun" in Japan. If you can read katakana, it is definitely spelled "da (silent tsu) to sa n"
Personally, I would be really uncomfortable going over $3-4k and even then only if the car really was in excellent condition. They sold a lot of 300zx's and there were over 5,000 50th anniversary cars sold in the US, so they're not super rare. I've seen them in junkyards on two occasions.
Also, I feel like the Z31 chassis is probably going to be one of the least desirable Z cars even a decade or two down the road.
On the other hand I was really surprised by the bidding on that auction you linked to, so maybe there's more of a market than I thought.

Ha! We can barely read English.
6k is way overprced. I wouldt pay more than 3k for that thing. As was stated. No one wants an 80s 300zx. They all want the 90s 300zx turbo, and even those go for around 6k now.
JHachi: I was shocked by that ebay listing too!
Up over $7,100 with 5 days left, wasn't going to hassle y'all, until I saw that.
(and yes, I realize that 100k is a long way from 30k)
Took the test drive, other than being unhappy about the interaction between the auto and boost, was enjoyable.
Solid car, everything I tried worked except I couldn't run the passenger window from the driver's side switch.
There's a few little nicks in the paint, and the badge that should reside on one side is sitting in the glove box
Turns out her daughter (in Chicago) is the one doing the wheeling and dealing, got her number, we'll see if I give it a ring.
Even at $3000, I wouldn't plan o making any money on it. Nobody really wanted those things when they were new.
Probably worthwhile to listen to the guy with Datsun in his name eh?
Thanks for the input y'all!
