So there's a used lot that has had couple 4 cyl fox bodies sitting for awhile now. I could prob get one for $7-800 easily. Cheap 4cyl rwd...are the worth the trouble...

2.3t swap is pretty straightforward if you find a donor.  Im biased by a deep love for the chassis but it really only shines in drag racing.

Lots of hobbystock Circle Track cars are 4cyl Stangs.

The engine isn’t terribly exciting without boosting the E36 M3 out of it and the chassis is well known but with a number of limitations for turning.

Luckily lots of parts are available to fix those issues and a V8 swap is easier on them than the V6 since they share K-members.

There are worse ways to spend that kind of money, probably worth a drive at least before deciding.

I’m no ford guy but the fox body mustangs are popular and do well in mini stock oval racing. There is also good aftermarket for the 2.3 with companies like esslinger. Ofcourse you can always do a 302 or 351 swap etc aswell.

The problem is that you can get a V8-powered Fox Body for not much more, and it would save you the hassle of doing the inevitable V8 swap yourself.

For under $1k it's probably worth it. You could probably sell it for more than that if you don't like it. That car as a rolling chassis would be around $1k by me. Foxbody's are only going to go up in price. The drag guys love them, and there's a growing appreciation for stock versions among collectors.

I'd really like to see one with a 4 cylinder ecoboost, a bunch of MM suspension parts, and wide tires.

A 4cyl/5spd fox would be a slow but fun around-town car because you can flog the E36 M3 out of it without really worrying about getting in trouble.

I Lemon's a 4 cylinder notch back, we are forever fighting the slowness.  It does get lighter and more nimble each year, and keeps finishing races so that's good.

The local circle track races were the first thing that came to mind for me too - they have a class that might as well be called Spec Four Cylinder Mustang. Otherwise, they can be an engine swap project, Improved Touring race car, or just a plain cheap beater.

A fairly mediocre car in stock trim, but there's a lot of aftermarket support for it.

I've only owned a 4 door Fox body car, but the rear suspension is a bit of a mess stock. I went around a sweeping corner at the speed limit and did a bit too much correction and the rear went into bind. Knuckles whitened, pulse quickened; it demanded my attention.

I still would like another one some day. But I would need to address the rear suspension. I would like to do some goofy 4 cylinder swap. Like a Zetec SVT. I saw go for it. Super cheap cars are a good way to play with them and sell them for what you have in 'em.

Options. 1. Buy them all. Detail them, flip, double your money.  2. Buy the nicest one, drive it and enjoy it.  3. Buy the nicest one, 302/351 swap. It's not that difficult.  New and used parts are everywhere, and relatively cheap, for whatever application you choose to drive it.   Fox bodies are on the rise.  Good luck and have fun.

I loved my little 86 notchback.  4-cyl - 4spd.    I tossed it all over the gravel roads.
