I find myself with some extra cash but not a lot. I need to upgrade springs/shocks on the '88 LX 5.0L and I need to stay on budget.
Any ideas for suspension setups for under the $500 mark (Canadian).
I've got rims/tires sorted and a nice Corbeau race seat (used but in great shape). Don't care about class change from FS just looking to have some fun this year.
Thanks
Glenn
Yeah CAM is a better place for Fox Bodies to play anyway.
This looks pretty good for a budget set-up. Reviews for the Stagg shocks are universally decent. http://www.ebay.com/itm/STAGG-SHS-4-STRUTS-SHOCKS-SPRINGS-FORD-MUSTANG-87-to-93-/400678266624?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3AMustang&hash=item5d4a492700&vxp=mtr
You want fun on stock suspension? Rally it man. The fox does pretty good in dirt.
I hear subframe connector make a huge improvement on the fox bodies. Most any RWD car benefits from a fat front sway bar. I also hear that a watts link is a huge improvement on ony solid axle car. Keeping it on the budget you might want to box your control arms front and rear and add some stiffer bushings.
subframe connectors and boxed or tubular rear lower control arms. They cure a lot of the cars flex issues. auto x specific I have no clue.
Convert it to a 3-link with a panhard bar to get rid of the stock system that's pretty prone to binding.

So this doesn't happen: (yes my car and I'm overdriving)

Yup. Our most novice LeMons guy had to get out of the car (per the judges) after spinning our 91 Datstang twice because he didn't know how to catch it once it went wonky.
Switching to a 3-link is on the list now to make the car behave a little.
If you've only got $500 would you attack the various major issues in the rear suspension or would you do something else? This is assuming everything is in good condition and not needing real maintenance done first. OR maybe the OP should save more and then attack the suspension when he's got, say, $1000 in his pocket?

Car is in great shape, need to do the brakes and a clutch cable. Friend did the watts link on his 2010, says it's much better. My shocks are at least 26 years old as are the springs, time for an upgrade.
