So my plans have changed for the RX. It's going to get a new cage that is Rally America/NASA rally/CARS legal so that I can run it in stage rally as well as track events. I'm also kicking around the idea of doing rallys in Mexico, club events are cheap there. The car will not be realistically finished until the end of this year. With that the case, I need something I can run in local events now.

I want to stick with a RWD. I'd really like something that is already running well, will stay running, and doesn't need a lot of tinkering. Suggestions on cars to look for?

Also, I'd much rather buy from someone on this board, better odds at getting a good one and an honest assessment of it's history and condition. I'm in AL, so the Southeast would be best. No title and non street legal is fine.

Let me know, and thanks!

Volvo 240 could make a good rallyX car, not so sure about autoX though...

Another RX-7? It means you would have spares for the rally car of vice versa.

I have one I would let go for $500 but its not exactly in the best condition. Made the drive from Kansas to FL two years ago without a problem. Here it is in the Readers Rides. You (or I) would have to source a hood, header panel and fender for you to drive it back though. Other than that it is in the same condition as my post. I would probably be keeping the the GSL-SE rear and putting back in a 79 unit.

Another RX-7. The 1st Gen's are ridiculously cheap.

If you're going to cage it for stage rally, and you expect it to be done by the end of the year, I'd suggest just buying an already prepped vehicle. It will have to be street registered, unless you have a dealer plate you can throw on the car for rallies.

One of my friends made the mistake of rallycrossing a car before prepping it. Lots of wasted time cleaning up.

I've also watched a lot of low budget rally builds take about 7 years instead of 7 months. Just food for thought.
