I had the same gut reaction regarding altitude, but here's another interpretation: All of these cars are admittedly great at sea level, but of all of them, the Lincoln is least compromised by elevation. If I lived a few thousand feet up, I would be really interested in what drivetrain would give me the best performance bang for the buck in the environment where I lived.
While the Nurburgring serves as a great benchmark for raw performance, it's a lot more akin to comparing sports statistics. The road is an environment that we can all play in.

My mom even noticed that they said "SHO" rather than "S-H-O".

Just got back from the advanced screening. Pretty cool- lots of smiles, lots of kidding toward the two Ford guys features on the show.
But one funny thing- google is an interesting tool So I've suggested to post this data that Automobile and Motortrend list as the sea level performance data...
Sea Level Performance (per Automobile / Motor Trend):
0-60mph/ 1/4mi
Lincoln MKS 5.2 sec/13.7 sec
BMW 550i 5.2/13.7
Jaguar XF 5.5/14.0
Maserati Quattroporte 5.3/13.9
Mercedes Benz E550 4.8/13.4
it will be interesting to see how that looks to you guys. But the MKS is pretty mid pack at sea level, too.
Also:
MKS has lowest power / weight ratio, compensated for by broad, linear torque curve
MKS has highest EPA highway fuel economy rating @ 25 mpg (vs. average of competitors @ 22 mpg, with Maserati @ 17 mpg = gas guzzler tax)
MKS has only full five star front & side NHTSA crash test rating
MKS is tied with Maserati with largest interior volume
MKS is tied with Jaguar with largest trunk volume
MKS is $10K - $72K less expensive
And none of that is mentioned in the show. Neither is the sea level performance.

This post did far more to convince me that the MKS is a contender than the video. Maybe you should be in marketing too.

Here's the funny thing- my google reference ISN'T that the info is freely available on line (which it is). But more about people searching out discussion boards about particular discussions....
Basically, the data was forwarded to me.
By a fellow worker.
Thankfully, said worker was happy about my discussions.

Eric,
Does this engine share the 2.5L/3.0L Duratec bellhousing?

No, sadly for what you are thinking, it does not.
You will see a version or two in different RWD vehicles soon.

I am just glad ford is finally giving Lincoln the cars it deserves instead of the rebadged fords it has been giving them.
Once upon a time Lincolns were quite the car to have.. maybe that time will come around again.

I also do not like the wiper controls being on the turn signal stalk. i would much prefer they be on a sperate stalk on the right side of the wheel. The Fusion has no stalk on the right side of the wheel but the Mazda 6 does.
I disagree. GM had the turn signals, wipers, and cruise all on a single left stalk for years. I liked this. Everything was within a flick of my left finger, leaving the right hand free for shifting. Now with the last couple of cars I've owned, the wipers are on a right stalk, constantly getting bumped on when I shift, reach for the radio, etc. ANNOYING! Headlight switches belong on the dash, not a stalk.
Some newer Porsches have 4 stalks!
In reply to Gearheadotaku:
To each their own, but the GM Uni-Stalk is the devil.
Really?
You like this thing?
One's own opinion is exactly that, ones own.

I hear it's definitely going to be an option in the 2011-2012 F150... how about in a mustang? or a FREAKING (completely and utterly redesigned) RANGER!
It seems like a very impressive car and I love that Ford is finally taking on the European manufacturers. That being said I would really like to see a nearer sea level track test between these cars to see how the Lincoln compares.
A rather self serving bump. Show is tonight 9:30 EST.
Put my patents to work... :)
