I was looking around the internet and found that you can get good running motors for about 1K. That seems crazy cheep for what it is. These are under stressed 300/300 motors that can be made into monsters for not alot of $$$. I read some place that these take very well to boost.

Yes I know these are not all aluminum motors but for the average guy that wants to do a motor swap or is doing a project on the cheap this seems like the easy button to huge HP and torque #'s for a project.

I know of one in a Colorado putting down 895rwhp with a s480 billet China clone turbo and reused head studs.

All the ones I've seen are well over 1k or don't have a harness or pcm. Most of the complete dropouts with harness/computer/accessories/trans are 2k+

Even at 2k with all the extras that is still a bargain compared to the Aluminum lsx motors I see.

If someone wants an 07 lq4, 4l80e, running and driving great in a van they can have mine for 2k

I've never seen one close to 1k anywhere near me. I've been looking for one to swap into my suburban tow pig.

They've been in that range for about a decade. A 5.3 is about $300..

How's the rest of the van? I really miss my '99.

To me the real bargain is what a running driving ls1 f-body goes for. I recently bought one with a t56 for under $3k.

Wow! Around here an automatic LS car is usually $6k, the six speed pushes them $8-9, unless it's beat beyond recognition.

I have seen some pretty cheap 4.8 and 5.3 motors for sale. People usually ask decent money for the 6.0, but you can usually get complete vehicles with a 6.0 for cheap that has the body rusted out and beat up. Of I were doing the swap I would prefer to buy the whole vehicle. There's alway a ton of small things that you didn't think you needed, but with the complete car they become free.

The other nice thing about buying a who donor is being able to test everything to be sure it works opposed to a mystery sitting on pallet.

What is the weight penalty for a iron block versus aluminum?

If you are going to boost the crap out of it, does the 6.0 buy you anything over a 5.3? I really don't see the extra 700cc making too much difference at the levels the Sloppy Mechanics are running.

Well you can run lower boost and get the same hp from the 6.0 and it would be less stressed than a 5.3 or a 4.8. I think the big gain would be torque.

Bore size is able to unshroud the valves a bit plus able to go bigger. But when you're cramming in 15+ psi... I don't think it matters.

Pretty much everything I've seen indicates between 75-100lbs.

The 6.0 is my favorite part of my '05 Yukon Denali XL. It's huge but pulls great even with 190kmi.

I paid close to $3,000 for the whole thing.

Two thoughts: around here (midatlantic) the price difference between the 4.8, 5.3, 6.0 is within 1k of each other. However, with that being said the cost of wrecked or even just worked-hard vans, trucks, and SUVs is within spitting distance of the engines alone. I'm not really sure why I thought this was relavent. Also, as a side note, anybody notice how cheap 1st gen LSx vehicles are getting in general? I've seen several manual GTOs with <100k for less than 7k and 4th gen manual camaros for <5k.

Ive read somewhere (probably here) that something about the 4.8, rod ratio or some such, makes it take to boost like a duck to water. No specifics that I can recall, but if boost is your plan I would investigate, especialy since the 4.8 tends to sell for about half the cost of a 6.0.

It's worth looking into. Hot Rod was making 1200 or so on a 4.8 but couldn't keep it lit on higher boost.

20 years ago you had to work really hard to run 10's for $10k. Now you can even run into the 8's on 10 grand. Look at some of those Ford Fairmonts the Sloppy Mechs threw together. My favorite is the Dodge Aspen but I don't think it's dialed yet.

the good heads also work with the big bore blocks: you can't put the LS7 heads on a 5.3, but you can put them on a 6.0.. i haven't looked up the prices on those heads lately, but when they first came out they were in the $500 range for a pair of them at any GM dealer, plus a couple hundred more for all the rocker arms and gaskets and what not..
