In a few hours, I'm going to remove the 110/PG engine from the rustiest 67 corvair convertible you've ever seen so we can save it for parts for the other Corvairs my dad has. Like his 63 Rampside, 64 Monza Spyder, or specifically the rust-free 67 convertible.

I have limited tools where I'm doing this, but I have jacks, stands, hoist and a pallet jack. I'd like to drop the rear subframe onto a pallet if possible, then roll the body onto my trailer to haul to scrap.

Any suggestions? My dad dropped the engine from the Rampside in less than an hour a while back, but he is busy and won't be around to help.

Thanks,

Kramer

It's almost as easy as an AC Beetle.

I've scrapped numerous Corvairs, removed most of the drivetrains with an oxy/acetylene torch.

there isn't a rear subframe in the late ('65 - '69) cars. you will need to disconnect, by any means necessary, the shift cable, the throttle linkage from the pedal to the bellcrank on the side of the PG, the fuel line that passes through the engine compartment front shroud, the wires to the starter, and the wire from the distributor to the coil. you will also need to disconnect the rear lower lateral links from their brackets, and the halfshafts from the yokes in the diff.

after that, there is one nut to remove at the engine end, and two nuts to remove at the trans crossmember end. please have two floor jacks supporting the weight of the powertrain before removing those three nuts.

total process should take about an hour if you don't have to use a torch.

It took me longer than I wanted, but I had limited tools, and no experience with this, so the fear of dropping the engine on my head made me be more cautious. The second time, if there ever is one, will go much quicker. The lateral links caused me some headaches as they seemed to be in the way when sliding the motor out. Maybe I should have disconnected the axles from the center section instead of just the hubs.

Yes. That is the trick.
