Where? I don't see a replacement, just a way to fit a large engine's amount of air into a smaller one. Same displacement, just two-stage instead of single.

They didn't say what class that was. I am very curious. (Super Stock is only part of the class, it's like saying ALMS... there is more to the story) but yeah, it's fast.

BARNCA, if it had a turbo on it (I didn't read far enough) it wouldn't be eligible for super stock, at least the last time I read the rulebook, unless one came on the car stock, which, unless I am being especially stupid, it did not.

OK, I learned something, it is a new class. When I last looked it was SS/(letter)(A or M) and that's it. The letter corresponded to a weight break, and no non factory stuff (as far as forced induction) was allowed. So this is a new class where the record hasn't even officially been set: http://www.nhra.net/stats/ss_record.html and hence the very quick ET. Someone was reading their rulebook very carefully. The NHRA always underestimates turbos. For some silly reason, they allow either an OEM supercharger OR two turbochargers for that class. That's silly. All the car has to be is non V8 and under their hp/weight index from the factory.

Weird.

Not to take anything away from that pass, or that car, that's very quick, but SS has always been more controlled than that, and it's a little disheartening, honestly. My Dad's car (SS/DA) has to run the stock carb, the stock compression, the stock heads, where porting is allowed but changing the runner volume is not. It's a very tough class, but he builds something like 700 HP. The record in that class appears to be a 9.28, which is over a second slower, but it's all motor, and all fairly stock with the exception of valvetrain/cam and intake/exhaust and some other very tricky stuff. It may have 427 cubes to work with, but he's dealing with very outdated technology in comparison.

Neat stuff, though. Again, not to take anything away from that car. I actually wish they would find a class for the S2000 et al that's more like the 'real' SS classes, where they can be trickey, but have to keep mostly stock parts. THat car could probably still get into the 11s with the RPMs they are capable of, and that's nothing to shy away from.

Anyway, I am not Graham Light, I just judge him in between cleaning parts of the house for my wife.

That's pretty cool. I love an underdog.
