Kumho doesn't seem to have anything wider the 225 for this wheel size, what else is out there, I would like at least 255 and maybe 275, wider is better in this case

8.5s are actually a bit narrow for 225s. I currently have 225/50R16 Kumho V710s on 16x9.5s. At least with the 16" sizes, the 245/45R16 is pretty much the same size (but different shape in the V710s.) The Hoosier A6/A7 should be a bit faster than the Kumhos.
Hoosier has 225/45R15, 245/40R15, and 275/35R15 in the A6 and A7. Ideally you would want the later on some 11" to 12" wide wheels, but people have stuffed them on 6" wide wheels too.
I've also used the 205/50R15 and 225/50R15 Kumho V710s. I am sure the later would be decent on 8.5s. They were quite pinched on 15x7s.
