What's the scoop on these early ones? I never really researched the original Si's.

same as a first gen CRX. Light and can be made fast.
Redpepperracing is the forum for first gen CRX folks.
Gives me a new idea for a classic livery on my CRX
The scoop on these is that they're awesome. I can't believe that there's a single unmodified one left out there.
I was searching for a used one in '89 and finally broke down and bought a new one. No one would give up the 86-87 cars at that point.
The ad states: "NEEDS a full exhaust system...."
Wow, those are the words we love to hear....new header....performance exhaust.
Any advantages over the 89-91 Si's? I've had my eye on a 91 Si, but the dealer is being a pain. Don't these have bad rust issues underneath? More so than the 88-91's?
lighter than the later models but less powerful also.
They're all made of thin metal so rust is an issue for all of them. Check the rockers and the rear bumper supports, they go first. If the rear fenders look good chances are it's solid.
I wonder what he ran over, took out the oil pan and the exhaust system. If the suspension pickup points aren't tweaked, not bad--even if they are, still a deal.

Yeah, what he said. If it's not rusty, that's a cool find. I had an '86 Civic Si. It was a neat car.
Well, if you live in Metro Washington DC area I stumbled upon this one: http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/ctd/1896518090.html
$995 and looks pretty decent...
Also: White is the toughest color to find (and the best looking IMO.) Parts are getting harder to find. If it's got the rear cargo cover (opens with the hatch,) and the interior sunroof cover, you've struck gold. Regardless, if it's rust-free, $500 would still be a good price even if it didn't run!
Rust issues on the 3g hatches usually occur in the rockers, panhard bar, occasionally around the spoiler...or in the case of my most recent one berkeleying EVERYWHERE.
I went and looked at it yesterday evening. Drove it around the neighborhood loudly (downpipe to cherry bomb muffler), but too much rust in the rear bumper (where it attaches -the bumper hangs a bit) and especially in the rockers (one side is almost gone completely). The usual rusty floors.
: (
Someone might be able to save it. It just won't be me...

Thanks for posting this. I e-mailed about it. I knew it would have bad rust. I looked at two last year, the body basically rusted off the frame. And you could see the ground while sitting in it. The fact that we are in Ohio doesn't help. Thanks again.

Not a problem. I have more pictures if anyone cares to see, and if you have any questions or want to see the pictures, just email me and I'll send them on.
Sorry dudes If you're still interested in a 3G hatch or a 1G crx, I'd be happy to keep an eye out for you here. I've had a few GA 1st gens that were completely rust-free.

Thanks Poop.
Rust-free is only a dream up here...
