Primarily a Mustang. Fox coupe, early coupe or a MII fastback although I have't ruled out an early Barracuda or Dart, but these are pretty pricey. Everyone around here (Ohio) does Chevy, so I don't want to go that route. A MII fastback might be cool as not a lot of people like them so you don't see a lot of them. One that could turn corners might be cool....
GRM ran an article a while back on a Fairmont wagon, same chassis as a MII I believe. Kickass car! Caged with a 5.0 it's really different. That sort of body may be easier to find because it's a Grandma car.
This may not be the same car, but you'll get the idea.

For the record...the Fairmont is the basis for the Fox platform. (not based on the Mustang II/Pinto)

Although they seem rather scarce here in Ohio. I'm figuring they've all rusted to dust by now.
Yeah...Fairmonts were unloved from the start (I mean, who besides a few of us nutcases here were ever passionate about a Fairmont?) and they haven't been made in 20 some years...that sets up an equation for scarcity, unfortunately.
But there's so much potential there! Take wrecked 5.0 mustang donor and your Fairmont of choice and you could have a driver by the end of the weekend.
And since it's not a Mustang, nobody will expect it to perform like a supercar, so when it performs at even stock 5.0 mustang levels, it will garner respect.
if you want to go newer.. the little LTD and Mercury Marquis were also on the same chassis

I am not a big fan of the 901. Especially in a 914. In that application, first gear lies about the middle of my right thigh. (also known as, the space the steering wheel wants to inhabit.)
I am too large for a 914!
well, you know the 914 had two different styles of shifter? The early cars had some god aweful linkage that went all the way to the rear of the car and went through the tail like a 911 (in reverse) and the later years had a side linkage that went into the side of the case and made things a lot nicer
