One of my buddies has an MX-6 and his speedo comes and goes. Cruise works and so does odometer. Can't find a VSS or cable on the transmission. Are we missing something?!? Found a 2 pin connector on top of the trans that has been spliced, is that it?

Is there a issue with the cluster going out over time?

Thanks, Bruce

It's an electric vss. Top of the trans in a really annoying spot. Two wires. Could be cluster I suppose but those weren't known for having problems. The vss on the other hand... very known for problems.

I knew you'd pipe up Swank. Is there a good pic online? Are we not searching with the keywords?

I think the forums call it a speedo gear or something. It's on the top of trans towards the middle of the engine bay. Look above where the halfshaft goes in. Flat section. 10mm bolt that will probably break or strip.

I wouldn't discount the cluster. The RX7 from that era is notorious for cold solder joints in the cluster causing intermittent tach or speedo, so I suppose an MX6 could have a similar problem.
