I asked about this car a few years ago but now the owner's are ready to sell. It's a 1995 Impala SS with around 95,000 miles. Car has been sitting and not started in a few years. I'm told it needs new tires plus whatever else is needed to get it running. kbb.com is listing the fair value at about $6,300 but I'm not sure what it's really worth. I'm not buying it but if anyone is interested let me know and I'll find out more details. Car is in GA within 2 hours of Atlanta but I don't know exactly where. It's owned by the parents of some friends.
In non running condition, I'd give $500 for it. In the end, it's a gussied up Caprice.
Is there much difference between the impala SS and the 9C1?
The ImpalaSS starts as a 9C1. It has lower springs, and after that is a package of seats, 3.08 rear, wheels, and badges. Yes, its a gussied up Caprice but they bring top dollar. Mine is a 96 with a broken window, torn seats, exhaust leak, no radio, cracked dash, worn carpet, 135k and a bad rear axle and I've been offered $12k for it. I didn't take it.
The truth is, if you have an owner that loves it, you won't pry it from his dead hands for less than $10k, but if you have someone who just views it as a car you'll pay fair market value for it. Its the same reason why a 64 Impala brings way more than a 63 Impala. Its just a more "desirable" car.
I probably get asked 4-5 times a week if mine is for sale and honestly you wouldn't be able to buy it from me unless you have $20k. Its worth $3k, but I'm not selling. One that is very similar to mine (minus the missing radio and broken window) just sold down the street for $6000.
Forget KBB. Offer him what you think its worth to YOU. If he takes it, great. If he puts it on ebay or CL he'll get way more than KBB value for it.

One could be considered a darth vader mobile, the other not so much. Just my opinion.

Wow, thats like the price difference between the old supercharged harley trucks that sell for 12-20K when the other f150s of the era sell for 1500-4k. lol

Which leads me to believe the key to resale value is Black Paint, Cooler Wheels, and Decent Power.
and a motorcycle logo on the side?

I wouldn't mind having an SS, but I went with the bargain-priced and mechanically identical (minus the suspension, which I am working on) Roadmaster sedan. Including my SS wheels and HTR Z IIIs I have less than $2k in mine and it's just as comfy, just as big, and just as fast.
Til spring or so, though, it doesn't handle quite as well.

I needed a reminder why I bought my P71. thanks.
okay that was unneccisarily sarcastic.
but it does perfectly illustrate why I will never own that chevy

Works the same for Marauders. Most of them run 10k while average crown vics and P71s run half that amount or less.
Buick has played this game before too.
One thousand dollars American. I'll bring cash and give it a good home. I love me a Heavy Chevy.
if you want to look cool and ride around in comfy leather, get an Impala SS.
if you want to go fast for cheap and comfort is about 3rd or 4th on your list of priorities, get an LT1 powered 9C1.
mechanically, they are the same car- same engine, trans, rear end. but the 9C1 has heavier duty everything than the Imp SS- bigger oil, PS, and trans coolers, green silicone coolant hoses hooked to a bigger radiator, HD electrical system, stiffer springs, 15X7 steel wheels that are designed to jump over curbs at speed without bending, and a driver's seat that has a steel plate in the back so the perp in the back seat can't stab you. that last thing is important if you have kids..
as is, they are great cars.. but drop it lower to the ground with a set of used Impala SS springs from someone that added lowering springs to their SS and bolt on some black 15X8 Chevy/GMC 1/2 ton 2 wheel drive truck steel wheels with 275/60/15 tires on all 4 corners and just enjoy the hell out of it..
Bare in mind that the youngest of these cars is over 15 years old. Most 9C1s are beat to hell by now. SS prices often reflect the condition. But a really clean 9C1 is around the price of a beat to hell SS. Pick your poison.
