Hi gang I put a engine in my grandmothers car and have been having some issues over the last few days , I will lay them out and tell me what you think, as this list has some very knowledge people.
1)O.E engine ran good but was drinking coolant like $1 drafts of Stella beer on Friday night.
2) Used engine installed
3) Engine started and runs ok (little off?) no CEL/MIL
4) Test drive car has spark knock/ pinging (not before ) and a kind of high and low idle at time, the CEL/MIL comes on for O2 codes P0135 and P1131 (after knock).
5) Clear codes drive again spark knock but no CEL/MIL
6) Find some info on F150.net about cleaning the MAF sensor and running Seafoam through the intake.
7)Cleaned MAF idle is great and has been since, ran half a can of Seafoam through the engine (intake) shut off let sit and restarted about 10 min later (James Bond wish he has this E36 M3 )
8) Test drive is over all good with only a little spark knock on WOT up hill (only).
9) On way home CEL comes on with the O2 codes again car runs great?
10)Run rest of Seafoam through the next day no real change.
11) Someone tells me about this "trick" for the O2 codes.
a.clear codes
b. unplug the MAF
c. drive car
d. IF the O2 come back replace the sensor
e. IF the O2 codes do not come back replace the MAF sensor
I followed the steps above and the O2 codes did NOT come back (P0102 I think for the MAF) Now my question is this a good test or am I just dumping fuel and flooding the sensor as I can smell the car loading up at idle.
Thanks Paul B
