Since we're talking daily driver primarily i say go with the CSVT, and this decision is made a LOT easier by the 3.0 swap.

Do you have emissions testing there? If so, with the cat built into the exhaust manifold, the CSVT is worthless IMO. The SE-R is ok, but if it doesnt have the 5th gear popout issue yet it will im sure. Its not really as good a car anyway. Keep the VW for now, I dont think either of those are a worthwhile replacement.

I had a 91 SE-R that I purchased new and it was one of the all time greats. That motor is so sweet, I am sorry I ever sold it. I agree with one of the previous posters....I believe it will appreciate over time.

I vote SE-R.

SE-Rs were a sweet ride when they came out and I really, really wanted one when I was sloughing about to college in a crappy tin can regular Sentra but... if the going rate is $4k I'd think of all the cooler cars I could buy for that coin. Then I'd buy one of those instead.... remembering that its still a crappy tin can regular Sentra with bigger motor and some different logos and during the same era Nissan made 240s, 280s, and 300s that were all cooler than an SE-R.

I imagine the Contour to be the same chassis as a Taurus and around the same weight, and is wholly in possession of a similar level of ugliness. The only thing I could ever see in either one of those is that they were surprising for what they were. What they were was a E36 M3ty family car. They were just slightly less E36 M3ty because they could scoot a little bit. I have had HPDE students in gutted SHO Tauruses on Hoosier slicks and even when driven well they still sucked at everything except sounding cool. PASS. (some of those guys still show up... but they drive E30s now... hint... hint...)

The contour is Much smaller than the taurus. I loved my SHO's but they're pigs to wheel around a tight course.

I havent read this whole thing, but Id go for the SE-R. SR20DEs are bulletproof, and suppported and documented wel by the aftermarket.

All I know about SVT Contours is they perform HORRIBLY in crash tests...like the crash that killed a friend. He was hooning, and the crash was the result, but the crash shouldve been one you walk away from - instead the car broke in half and neither the bags, nor his belts kept him breathing.

Id rather have a 2900 lbs of tin-can contour (with airbags AT ALL) than 2300 lbs of tin-can sentra.

One other mention here is that my commute is 120 miles a day, round trip...

Checked out a Viggen yesterday as well...Sort of a theme here...Small, special edition/rare versions of ubiquity. Viggen was nice but at $1000 more than the SVT and SE-R, but with twice the miles of the SVT (same MY) I just can't justify it.

The 1 of 200 is a nice perk, but really, for 126 miles a day round trip, this thing is unreal. Having Turner Motor Sports 15 minutes away may be a bad thing though......

Few dings and scratches here and there, but I'll get on that stuff soon enough. Turn 36 today...good present to myself.
