I know nothing about EV vehicles, except what little I've read.  I've noticed lately, some interest here.

My question is: Can a pulley system hooked up to an axle, or rotating assembly, connecting to an alternator setup, maintain the batteries?  Might be a dumb question, but inquiring minds need to know.

This is more of a question towards Challenge based cars.

The most effective method to recharge the batteries is using the motor in "reverse" as a generator...

you can't take power from a moving axle... without taking energy away from it...

I think that answers your question, because it sounds like you're trying to create a perpetual motion machine which obv can't work..

Yeah, what you described sounds (at best) to be what some racers with massive engines have done- run the alternator off the driveshaft instead of the engine due to space constraints. Problem with those setups is if you aren't moving, your battery is not being recharged.

I know that you can recharge a Tesla by towing it, but you can't tow it with its own motor at the same time :)

I don't think perpetual motion machines are prohibited in the rules.  I say give it a shot cheeky

In all seriousness, I think you may have to rephrase the question

This was basically mindless musings.  I noticed some interest in EV cars here, LeMons etc.   Some interest in the old Escort EV,  a Leaf, and a Volt.  I was kind of thinking along the lines of a PTO.  Was just curious if it was even plausible.  And some of these Challenge and LeMons vehicles are on the cutting edge of "out there".  I guess perpetual motion is a rather absurd thought, but just look at some of the creations  that the GRMers come up with.
