Over the last 24 hours I have had 2 transactions that show why I much prefer dealing with GRMers.

Transaction 1- Mrs Logdog and I picked up a parts truck a few days ago for the engine.  It will be awhile before I pull it and we haven't posted any parts for sale off of it.  However the woman we bought it from had been trying to part it and gave our contact info to people that were still calling her.  So this guy starts texting us about some body parts he wanted.  Cool.  Dont need those.  After several texts over a couple days he flakes out because Santa brought him the parts or something.  But he wants the wheels and tires along with the right front marker light.  We say we are not ready to sell the wheels because we need it to stay mobile.  He offers his wheels and tires and 75 bucks for mine.  Cool.  I figured I could get at least 100 but lets do it.   He comes over at 8pm last night.  I hand him a light to make sure they are what he wants.  He agrees he wants them.  As Im pulling the first wheel he sees a chunk missing from the lip of one about an inch long from where it was likely curbed over the last 18 years.   Now he wants to renegotiate to 50 bucks.  50 bucks for 4 factory alloys with decent tires that I wasn't even looking to sell.  Mrs Logdog offers 60 and he holds firm at 50.  Okay then... No deal.  He was a time waster from the first text about body parts and I was tired of dealing with him.  He did take the marker light at the agreed 10 bucks but he needed the bulb thrown in.

Transaction 2- I listed some wheels here on the forum.  Fellow GRMer Mark L comes over, buys the wheels, and we have a nice conversation about racing for a bit.  Easy peasy lemon squeezey.

Every buy/sell Ive had here on GRM has gone smooth and it reminds we why I make Mrs Logdog deal with the public.  I can't handle the flakes, gum flappers, time wasters, and sob story tellers.

I agree. Even my GRM deals that have not gone well, have gone well. Great place.

Most of my good non grm deals end up because craigslist guy ends up being a grm reader and racer who just isn't on the forum.

i've had everything from "oh I didn't notice someone chopped the harness and took the pcm and a coil but i'm not dropping the price even though you drove 40 minutes thinking you were getting everything complete" to "i'm giving off all the cues of being a curbstoner skipping titles but keep changing my story about how long I've had the car"

i did have one very bad grm buying experience, won't say which one it was but i left very angry and later found he didn't give me all my $ back because i trusted him and didn't count it because grm.  He kept $200 and hasn't been on the forum since.

i'm still trusting enough of long time members that i will send a deposit or pay in full for a car that I won't be picking up for months.  I think i paid for the wartburg in june and picked it up in September.

I've walked out with more of Patrick's "junk", two transmissions, fuel cell, tires, ranger wheel, then I care to admit too. It helps when he is 30 minutes away from summit.

I once bought a car from Patrick a year after I was interested in it. When he decided to sell it he remembered I had expressed interest and delivered it!

Never had anything but a great experience buying and selling here. Heck, I think I've bought 4 or 5 cars from GRM folk. I think all were fly amd drives except for one.

In reply to DrBoost :

The only bad experience I had was when this one dude I used to work with, "DrPositivePressure" or something was supposed to powdercoat some wheels and failed to deliver.  laugh

I sold my Cadillac to a guy who had several firebirds and wanted to go to the challenge.  He drove it home on my wheels, removed and bagged all my hardware and kept the wheels safe and i picked them up after he posted a $300 astro van for sale here that I went out and bought from him.  I just found out the other day he passed away from cancer not long after those transactions and was genuinely saddened by it even 11 years later.

most of my transactions here end up being like family and there's a core group of grm folk that I keep touch with off the forum regularly.

where else can you get a group of people to relay parts around the country for you or have people willing to take a deposit on a dolly and car you plan to pick up in april or may?

Where else does random number call you saying if you're serious about those plaid scirocco seats on FB in Michigan he has already called the seller and can grab them within 30 minutes for you?

All of my  buying transactions with GRM have been extremely painless. My selling transaction was extremely painless for me, notsomuch for FBC. Still feel bad about that one.

I usually ONLY try to sell things here, to avoid dealing with the masses. Always great transactions. Even non-forum transactions can end up on the forum, like when 2 different forum members graciously agreed to get an i3 wheel to the Challenge from PA!

My only issue has been a total lack of interest in my motorcycle sad every other GRM interaction has been stellar. I'm also the guy who answers the CL ad and is on time and doesn't haggle.
