I grabbed this two-drawer file cabinet during the office move before it went to the dump. Added an $8 bbq thermometer, a $14 hot plate, some racks, smoke pellets, and the best dang salmon you ever had flows out like sweet ambrosia.
It'll pull 200-degrees or so when it's maxed out. It would probably get hotter if I added some insulation, or a more powerful heat source, but honestly I'm not sure I need the hassle because for a near-zero investment it works darn good now. Done salmon, ribs and chicken thighs so far. Really the only downside is that your hair smells like smoke for like three days after.
