That ad was silly. First because there's nothing raw about an extremely cushy IS, second because someone who drove an IS would be a helluva lot older than that by the time human-driven cars are outlawed, and third because he could just go to a track and enjoy a cheap track car for the rest of his life for less than that IS cost him.
Somebody did not think that ad through.
Either: "the future is coming so stick with Lexus who will be stubborn and refuse to make cars in the future"
Or: "please buy our 2017 models because the next ones will render them obsolete in short order, absolutely wrecking whatever semblance of resale value you thought you had"
So, in the future we will have fully autonomous vehicles, but our beards will still turn grey. Let's get our priorities straight people!

Does ~any~ ad play to logic or foresight?

I resemble that remark
Here is what amuses me...
The cars are self driving
And yet, somehow, in this bold new world the cars still have sporty styling. As if it would matter to anyone anymore.
The "Transportation Pod" model of mass transit demands that all "Pods" share the same brain and the same dimensions and components for maximum efficiency and minimal chances of things going wrong from one car company making an error.
Yes there will be the option of luxury amenities inside, but I see the future as Vanilla.
Cars will remain a status symbol long after they are autonomous. At that point, status/style/luxury is all you have left to play on.
In the spectrum of new car advertisements, I would put this in the top third. I liked the ad. Visually, it looked like they needed to wipe the smear off the lens. Like a dirty iphone camera.

So when you call an Ubber, you care what shows up? In my autonomous car world, there is no point in owning a car.

UberX users might not, but UberSelect users obviously do.

When I Uber and get picked up in a brand new M45 versus a Prius, I have a better experience.

Which is what most people use to make decisions.
Let's just all agree that this whole thing is silly, we that we will all be dead before it ever happens. (Children of the future- I apologize a million times. The old days were indeed better!)
I am thinking that we won't need cars because we will all live a virtual world like "surrogate" and "Matrix".

This world does resemble an elaborate Sims torture dungeon...

So, if we are in virtual reality, then it is conceivable that we are about to create 2nd order VR (our VR has created VR). If we can create 2nd order VR, then we really can't be sure if it is indeed 2nd order but actually the 5th, 500th, or 50,000th time this cycle has recompleted.
About how many years on average do you think it takes for VR to recomplete one cycle?
Or, are our years here in VR the same as our creators years?

In Surrogates, people stayed home and piloted robot avatars. If you keep one in a broom closet at work, then you can just telecommute

Only 6 folds? Must be a Series 9000 Brainalyser.
I sure hope that when the time comes for self driving/autonomous vehicles to become the major means of day-to-day travel, that we won't actually have to shell out our own money for one, stylish or otherwise.
It would make the most sense for there to be a "rental" fleet of them centrally located in each town and city and we can just call one up on our devices and it will come to us where ever we are and take us to where ever we want to go.
Much easier and safer that how things are today, much cheaper and way more convenient than owning/insuring/maintaining/selling/buying/driving our own cars and trucks and vans.
Current road conditions, other driver's age (attitude, lack of skills, and experience) congestion, and Winter weather here in New England has pretty much ruined the driving "experience" already. I'm looking forward to just getting to where I need to go without the pain-in-the-ass of driving there myself !

The main issue I see with "ride-sharing" autonomous cars in the future is this-------- who is going to clean them?
I like a clean car......many many folks do not. I find food debris, wrappers, stains, spills, and misplaced bodily fluids unacceptable in a "transportation" pod. Obviously, many do not. I find litter in my yard everyday, because people are ignorant, filthy pigs--- although that's really not fair to pigs. These will be the same humans I'm sharing a car with. Unless they have a complete interior flush / sterilization, I don't want any part in ride-sharing. The rear seat of a taxi is bad enough.......and those get cleaned out at least once a shift by the cabby. Who's gonna clean the robot-car?
Maybe the eggheads can design a transportation pod that can be hosed out, or taken through an interior power-wash after each use. Something I hadn't thought of, but seeing how many (most) people treat their cars like rolling garbage cans, something will have to be done.
I'm not even going to get into the sort of use these cars will see after hours.....with no cabby (or Uber driver) to control back-seat behavior. So......you really want to be the next one in the car? Better get caught up on your shots! Don't worry, if you aren't, there will be handy needles on the floor for you to use!
