Struggling to figure it out and my Google fu hasn't been helping.
Abs light comes on once in a while, not getting any codes when the light is on or off. Fluid level good, possible wheel sensor?
Any idea how I can tell what is causing light? Inspection due this month and it won't pass with the light on.
2004 Nissan frontier 4wd 6cyl auto.
Either you have a dash electrical problem, or your scan tool is not reading things right. Light on=code.

From poking around Nissan specific forums it seems abs isn't reported via obII. But then the talk quickly goes to which is best wax to use or how big a tire can fit.
My caravan had the same issue and it was the speed sensor. It wouldn't show up on a scan unless the light was on right then. Good luck.
Yeah a lot of cars don't handle ABS errors through the ECU. If everything still works when the light is off then +1 for speed sensor.

Yes that's what I'm thinking, just
Trying to figure out which one, heck if they are cheap enough ill replace all four or worst case buy and play round robin till light doesn't appear.
There has to be a way to flash codes by 2004. I know some really early Volvos didn't store codes, and you had to test each component, but I can't imagine that would still be true by 2004. When I am at work tomorrow I'll try to remember to dig up some information for you.
I just punched up Alldata at home, and it looks like you just need access to a better scan tool. There is no method for flashing codes, so find somebody with a Snapon or otc unit and you should be fine.
black tape covers the light after everything else fails..
A better scanner should be able to run a diagnostic test and tell you exactly which sensor is bad.

I guess the free torque app and a 8 buck Bluetooth obII interface isn't going to get it done. I had it on there today with the app running light comes on but no codes. Bad news it looks like it is throwing a knock sensor code though. Real bad news is on the v6 the 20 dollar sensor is under the intake. A full day job for me or throw 600 in labor at it, just keeps getting better. Worst part two problems I need to fix to pass inspection, but don't affect the performance or usability of the truck.
The knock sensor is a bitch on those. Let me rephrase that- Once the intake manifold is off, the knock sensor is really easy to change.

Your inspection do they check for the engine light on? On the nissans of that age often they throw knock sensor codes but don't set the check engine light on... Up here they usually still pass emissions inspection with a knock sensor code, because its wont set the check engine light on... Double check that, its an extremely common code to see...
As for the ABS, you need a scanner that has OEM scanning capabilities, such as snap on, OTC ect... The little cheap crap you buy off ebay wont cut it... That only covers generic federally mandated emissions data...
Save your self a head ache cause all though it might be a wheel speed sensor it could also be the wiring harness, a bad pump motor relay or bad pump motor as well..
