Don't know if this is a known problem but in the last two days I have condemned four early 2000s Acura MDXs. The issue is the right rear sub-frame mount rusts and causes the sub-frame to separate from the unibody. It looks to be a expensive fix to repair properly.

All the cars were ok condition otherwise. Higher millage but serviceable. The owners ranged from wanting to kill the messenger(me). To completely psyched as her husband now had to get her a new car.

So if anyone has one of these inspect it. If anyone is looking at purchasing one best to look at this really carefully as the rest of the vehicle can look really good. All the ones I condemned were nice running driving and in otherwise very nice shape for there age.

Good looking out. I've got a pathfinder that this happened to on the front subframe. I cut and welded it back together but I never want to deal with that again. Man I hate rust.

This is not the sub-frame that is rusted it is the part of the unibody that the sub-frame bolts to. If it was the sub-frame that actually would not be to bad to replace

I'm assuming this would apply to the contemporary Pilot as well. I should check my mom's out the next time I'm over. Thanks for the heads up.

Hmm. I see you're farther to the north; I'm going to hope it's a problem that stayed up there. My dad has driven his '05 about 150k now, but we're down in the land of no salt (GA). I'll have to check it next time I see him..

How much for the remains of someone wanted to put together a V6 AWD Civic to go to the beach

These look to be GREAT motor doners. I mean a 3.5L V tech. I have no idea of the HP but 250???? Really nice running motors.

^Wikipedia says 265 from 02-06. That motor makes the MDX feel fast, and it weighs over 4400lbs empty. Can't imagine what it would do in even a 3200lb car.

Thanks for the heads up Dean. These and Honda Pilots are on the list of potential new daily drivers, so I'll make sure to look for that.

And I concur, the J-series V6 is an awesome engine. Could you imagine how fun one of those would be in an early civic or crx?
