I've worked out a deal and am going to pick this up next Saturday. I'm getting it from a guy who bought it for his teenage son, from the original owner. The kid who was to receive the car is not getting it because he got caught drinking alcohol so his dad decided to sell the car as punishment.

It has 155k and the guy claims it is 100% rust free and that everything works.

There are some bad things. It is a '90 so it has the lame motor-mouse seat belts. Also, the stock wheels, steering wheel, and interior upholstery on the '90-'92 are IMO aesthetically inferior to what came on the earlier cars. It is also my 2nd-to-least favorite available color combination (least favorite being white on blue.)

The E36 M3tiest of the bad stuff is that it is an automatic But I have all the parts necessary to convert it to 5-speed and that's what I'll be doing once I get some time, as well as installing some other sweet parts I've collected over the years.

I'm super stoked on this car. I daily'd one of these for twelve years or so and have been looking for another nice one for a while. They are getting to be so rare in any condition, so when a really good example comes along you can't be all choosey about colors and whatnot. I can fix the negatives on this thing.

You should get that one that's near you. You can find low-mileage motors from cars that got totaled years ago, on car-part.com, for $500-$600. You'd have a nice car for $1200 or so and lots of spares left over.

In reply to JamesMcD:

If I had a garage it would be in it, but alas, the wife doesn't want non-running cars hanging around the apartment parking lot (and who can blame her?). One day I will find one of these to daily, and my Z will get stripped and rebuilt more thoroughly than I am doing now.

Nice! Those are wicked cool cars. Maybe I can talk the wifey into getting one after I finish the Nova.

Hey, I ALREADY WAS ONE!

I just wish I could get some people into GC bodies. Maybe it would help if there were any to be had.

Here is one of my special parts that will be going on this car. It needs some fiddling and paint, but this is a super rare ZKW grill. There are only a handful of them in the US. I've been saving this one for at least 11 years, waiting for a nice MX6 to put it on.

So its just a plastic bracket that holds foglights? Um, some foam and fiberglass and you could build your own.... or if you had a big enough 3D printer..... jus sayin'

The whole grill is different. You'd have to start from scratch.

Uh, yeah I wasn't talking about modifying a stock grill, but building a new one from scratch based around the dimensions of the hole you're working with, but whatever.

Cool car though.

I apologize for leaving this thread hanging. This deal went sour, so to speak.

The seller raved about how awesome the car was. How rust free, and how I "would not be disappointed." And yeah, it looked sweet in the pictures. But after driving two hours one way to see it...It was not so great. It had rust everywhere these cars tend to rust, and rust-through in the trunk pockets. It also had a lot more dents than he claimed. So I was kinda pissed to have worked out a deal, shown up, and be presented with a car that was not as described.

I probably would have tried to beat him down on the price and buy it anyway if it had been a 5-speed car. But I didn't want to deal with both the rust and the conversion to 5-speed. I've got other cars in the garage that need attention, too.

Sooo.... Still looking.

James, my buddy is picking up that one I linked you today, sorry. He saw it before I did. But the good news is we'll have ALL the spares you'll ever need.

And this will pain me to tell someone else to get it, buuuuuttttt..... call Eric. Buddy doesn't need his white 90 now that he got that red 89. I want the white 90 to re-body mine, but I'd rather see you get a nice GD.
