I may or may not have a line on a really clean AE86. It may or may not be in challenge budget, clean, and have three pedals. It might be very appealing to me.

Its been awhile since these cars went out of production, has the parts market dried up? Even if it didn't turn into a fire breather, it's still a cool, light, economic little car.

For once, I've got a line on a Challenge project that can move itself!! (NOTE: This is an assumption, the author hasnot heard the car run, and knows nothing more than what the online ad has stated. The author also once again is car shopping with no money, nor the room to store another vehicle, I am sure many of you feel his pain.)

Nope, ae86 cars are quite hot right now in the drift crowd and there are still plenty of parts. Now, junkyard parts might be an issue. If you decide to do the swap, there are two issues of Project Car Magazine that detail this swap step-by-step (they are laying around here somewhere) that you may want to get your hands on. The SR5 to GTS swap is becoming more common now that the non-crashed GTS cars are drying up. Do it and then sell it to a drifter for twice what you built it for.

Yeah I read that issue, read both parts actually. Unfortunately I read them in the store and don't usually buy them, since I never figured I would need this knowledge.

Well, one of the issues is here:

Also, the corolla AE92 gts has a more powerful version of the same engine and a number of parts even though it is fwd. AW11 mr2 share parts as well and either will be cheaper for a parts car than an ae86 gts. Earlier corollas share suspension parts.

Every now and then I do see an AW11 in a junk yard. Not often, but from time to time. Never seen an AE86, SR5 or GTS.

I've seen both GT-S and SR5 AE86s in the yards here in Atlanta, and AW11s are almost regulars. They do get picked over real quick though. For reference, I just sold a GT-S with everything you would need to convert an SR5. I think I got $760 for it, some assembly required, so if you look hard you might be able to do the conversion for $500.

BTW - it's a great chassis. Very tossable and super fun on loose surfaces.

I've found that some parts are very easy to get and some parts are "whenever one shows up on the Internet."

It's an amazing car, though, and driving one until it dies a natural death is something I doubt a sports car lover will regret.

Why stop at the GTS conversion? There is one here with a Toyota V8 in it

Toyota Corolla GTS

This board is incorrigible.

Besides the turbo, v8, and cross manufacturer swaps there are also the 20V versions of the 4AGE if you just want a little bump in power without a lot of hassle.

The supercharged 4agze should not be too much trouble either and more torque.
