In my continuing effort to try to save my mother from herself, it seems as though she would benefit from some parking sensors. The car she is about to buy, a 2017 Mazda CX-5, does have accessory rear parking sensors but nothing for the front. I maybe able to get something from the UK version where they had them, but also want to look at aftermarket options.
Has anyone here installed some aftermarket parking sensors? If so, which ones and what do you think of them?
Would a video system work? Those systems exist.
What do you mean by parking sensor? Is it something that detects when the front or rear bumper gets too close to another object, or is it for the side of the car when parking by a curb?
My first thought was a set of old fashioned curb feelers.

The issue is her not being able to adequately judge where the front corners of the car are when entering and leaving parking spots. She hooked the front bumper of her e46 on a wrangler when backing out of a spot a few months ago.
The camera would not likely give good shots of the corners where the problem is. I’m looking for the typical radar backup sensors, but want to mount them on the front too, like the system in my CLS63 that has them on all 4 corners.
I hate to be the shiny happy person of the group, but if someone can't learn where the ends of their vehicle are with some practice (especially the front end) and keeps hitting things when parking, then plain and simple, they should not be driving.
Cheap option: what about "rookie poles" as seen on plows and large trucks?

Rslifkin, thanks so much for your helpful reply.
nonack: I will probably joke with her that I’ll put poles with little flags on them on the corners, and frankly she deserves it. If she still had a beater than I would, but with the new car it would be a shame.

I've seen some mounted in customer cars and they work ok. You will be drilling multiple large holes in the bumper to mount the sensors and have a box mounted on the dash though. They just don't compare to factory mounted and wired systems.
What about buying a smaller car or one with better visibility for her?

Given what is available, I'm not sure if you are going to find a sensor based parking tool vs. a camera based one from the aftermarket.
