I have two questions on aftermarket steering wheels.
-
I have a 7-bolt Dino wheel from the 70's (ish). Any idea where to buy adapters for it or what other wheels share bolt patterns? I've been told it was an OEM pattern and a factory option wheel (on a FIAT maybe?), but who knows.
-
I have a 6-bolt Dino-to-Porsche adapter. I've heard that the 6-bolt Dino's share bolt patterns with another company, who is it? MOMO?
-
If'n you have either A: The 7-bolt to Porsche adapter or B: A good 6-bolt wheel, and would like to make a few bucks, please PM me. My 7-bolt wheel's bolt pattern is a larger diameter than my 6-bolt adapter and simply will not work.
Thanks!
Well I haven't answered 1, but I found the answer to #2 on another forum answered by fiat22turbo (I thought we had discussed somewhere). Dino's 6-bolt is the same pattern as Nardi and Personal.
I have a momo competition wheel for $75, If you are interested I can take a pic for you, it is in pretty decent shape though.
Got a pic of your 7 bolt Dino?
Worst case scenario someone like me could machine up an adapter ring to make your hub fit the more common momo pattern.
I've got a zero-dish, 350mm OMP Velocita leather wheel, got it for my Miata and realized it would make it not street legal before I installed it, most I've done is bolted it up to the hub adaptor and finely trimmed the horn button to fit the wheel, other than that it has never been used, hub adaptor was never installed on the car. it retailed $295, given the condition, I wouldn't really want less than $200 for it, preferably about $225-$250, if you're interested, just pm/e-mail me (if there is a PM function on this forum I never found it)
ditchdigger - Yeah, around here somewhere. The issue is the 7-bolt one uses a larger diameter bolt circle, so the adapter would be weird plus stick it even closer to me in the car. Plus I wouldn't have a horn button (my wheel didn't come with one). Seeing as how I paid $5 or $10 for it, I'm content to leave it as garage art and just buy something that fits.
Slyp_Dawg - I appreciate the offer, but you're about $150 above my budget. Not that it's not worth it (I'm sure it's a great wheel), but I have a kid on the way and literally NO play money.
Could your 6 bolt adapter be redrilled to a momo pattern?
I have dabbled in odd bolt pattern adapters before like this big 9 bolt Lecarra one I had to make. There are plenty of solutions to your problem. There is a Momo Montecarlo hanging on my garage wall that, via redrill or adapter could be made to fit your hub in exchange for your dino.
I could re-drill my adapter, but since I somehow managed to find the only adapter ever made for a 944 that keeps the self-canceling stick for the blinkers, I'd be crazy to (as I'd have to cut that stick off and drill the pattern offset from the pattern on it, or else have a very crooked steering wheel). An adapter would work though.
I just built some adapters to extend the Grant style wheels. Wasn't too bad, even without a lathe.
I can build you an adapter from the 6-bolt to the 7-bolt style. I'd just just need the patterns and reference marks where TDC is. Would take an afternoon to complete more or less.

If I don't find a wheel deal in the next week or so, I'll mail you my wheel + adapter to make that happen. Aren't we nearby?
The re-drill is very easy for someone with a milling machine w/ a rotary table. I'm assuming the adaptor wheel centering ring is correct for the wheel and all that needs to happen is that it's dogged down on the rotary table and the new circular pattern of holes is drilled and tapped.
Let me know if you get stuck. I can do it but am booked up a couple weeks.
I may be in touch. I want a differnt wheel for my Classic 900.. but I don't see any adaptors listed at all

Yup, I'm down the road from you in SE Portland, near I-205. PM me and we can set up a time for you to drop by. I have a Grant wheel to trade you, if you want to check it out.

I work in Vancouver next Wednesday. If I don't have it figured out by then, I'll bring my wheels and adapter down and we can look at making an adapter for it or swapping the Grant.
