So one of my temp sensors for my aftermarket gauge took a poo. The question I have is, could I grab a cheap eBay replacement sender? Are these sensors usually universal? Or do I have to cough up an unreasonable amount of money for a replacement from the company?

Semi universal at least. If it’s the same thread and ohms it’ll usually be good. Which one you replacing?

The water and temp sensors wires are frayed at the sensor on my ArkDesign MFD due to vibration and heat. Same thing happened a few years ago. Just sick to dishing out 70 per sensor.
How would go about figuring out the ohms. Just stick them in water at different temps and use a multimeter?
is there an easier way? The only identifying mark on the sensor is a but 82 stamped on it

No need to worry about going to that extent unless you’re trying to map the sensor curve. Would also need a good sender to check that anyway. If you just know what the readings are for ambient temp an at operating temp, you can figure out which you need. Not that many different thermocouples out there.
got a manual for it? May be in the spec sheets somewhere.
I would expect the paperwork for the MFD to have specifications for the temperature sensor.

The only clue that I got from the manual is that it 1/8 inch and 0-160’C range.
Which is interesting a lot of the replacement sensors Im seeing is 0-150.

This is the only thing they mentioned in the manual. I did find this tho from Australia...

Got another hint.
25’C = 45kohms
30’C = 40kohms
says Ark Design
So as long as the sensor is 0-160 and has the corresponding resistance at the correct temps. Everything should be fine right?

Well, the 160c could be a good clue as is your few ohms readings.
Unforunately I'm just not finding any senders that meet the same ohms range. Doesn't mean there isn't one, just that I can't find it.
GM seemed closest but didn't quite match. The aftermarket ones I could find resistance data for didn't match up.
