Do you want to pay the $30 quadrillion in damages if a baby dies because a car seat failed and it was in a previous wreck? The car seat companies rightly will no longer accept liability in those scenarios, and neither will the insurance companies.

Seriously, all sorts of bizarre things happen in a crash. You should have seen the random stuff in the Mazda5 that broke when it was hit. Granted, it was hit a lot harder, but no jury is going to understand, a crash is a crash.

Ah, I've always been able to leave the scene under my own power

I suppose so. Weird things do happen that shouldn't when the stars align just right, like soda straws being drive into a brick during a tornado.

Law states that a car seat has to be replaced if it's been in a crash no matter what. Too much liability otherwise.

insurance will cover, There is no reputatable car seat company that wants you to continue using the seats after even a minor crash.

Say what now? I've never heard of this in WA.

WA does not have the law, but it is STRONGLY encouraged. USAA would pay, i believe, without even effecting the deductible.

All the literature from car seat manufacturers state replacing the seats in the event of a crash. When I had a wreck(thankfully low speed and not my fault) with my kids in the car.. I destroyed the seats before I set them out for the garbage man. I cut the harneses out and still had to chase people away from them on my trash pile. Too much liability to go aruond.
