I see CL ads for them rusting in half but can't recall ever hearing of one used for a Locost?

Do it and let us know how bad an idea it was.

I vaguely remember a few of them rattling around the UK disguised as locosts.

Part of the issue with using the Alfa drive train is that the engine is surprisingly tall, so with a Locost you have the problem that the hood either sits a lot higher than usual or you crack the oil pan at every opportunity.

Do the Spyders use rear transaxles? If so, it might widen the tunnel, causing packaging issues.

The spider has a typical live rear axle.

If you use one, one easy way to get some oil pan space side to side is to find an Alfetta oil pan and pump. Otherwise, the spider's oil pan shape can be a pain.

One other cool idea for the Alfa donor- instead of a standard 7 nose, you can use a plethora of old nose shapes from 30's Alfas- much like Zagato did with the Quattroroute

That car is either based on the later 101 chassis cars or early 105 cars. The 105 being the european version of the Spider chassis. Basically, you could replicate what Zagato did.

The oil pan shaped differently, and it holds something like 6or 7 quarts IIRC.

In reply to racerdave600:

the pans are all 7 qts. The better shaped Alfetta pan still holds 7.

BTW, if you choose to do that, I have a NOS Alfetta oil pan. Now that I don't have a Giulietta, I have no real need for it. Unless I put together my own LoCost 4R.

If you need an Alfetta oil pan, why not just start with an Alfetta? They are pretty cheap too.

The transaxle messes things up some.

Stroker, the guy that owns The Tuning Spot in Columbia has a 90 Alfa Spider if you want to take a poke at one before driving off to look at one that is for sale. His name is Stu and he is a good friend of mine.

I was just idle noodling more than seriously interested. I need to unload some motorcycles before I can think about a car project...

I have been thinking about it a lot. Mostly because I do have enough spare parts lying around to have a complete powertrain. Used to have a complete 750 set, too, but sold that when I sold my Giuliettas.

Not sure if I'll ever get around to it, but the ideas keep me up at night.
