PHeller wanted me to join up here and check out the site and the forums and figured I would enjoy this place. He hasn't steered me wrong in any of his opinions in the past so what the heck here i am!
I used to be 100% automotive nut, now it's probably 75% bikes, 25% cars. However, I recently started getting back into cars as I've missed them dearly and have found myself with little time to ride and more time to drive.
Started way back when i was a teenager, 1st car was a little mustang II (pinto power!), bought a zx2 (like PHeller did) and did a season and a half of autocross, ended up selling the mustang and had to stop doing autox so i didn't beat up the zx2 as my daily.
Years later I finally decided to get another project car. It's almost ready to run, I basically need a fuel pump, a fuel accumulator, fuel filter and some lines and I'll be good to go, it's came a long way since I got it but still needs a lot of work. I bought a 77' Porsche 924. Missed rearwheel drive, and always wanted a 924 (what can i say, i like the oddball years and oddball cars).
PHeller tells me there are quite a few autox nuts here and people who like different kinds of racing, so it sounded interesting to me :)

You brought beer right? Every new guy is supposed to bring beer.

"Hi I'm rusty!"
Punk, i figured it out, it's html not bbcode LOL!

OK, you passed the test, you can hang around and waste mucho time here. You will find incredible depth of knowledge, a willingness and ability to help with almost any problem, and a vast pit of sarcasm and bad humor. I like it, though.
Well, there goes the neighborhood!
Seriously, welcome to the other nuthouse!

What are your plans for the Porsche? Different wheels I hope?
You don't like the wheels? I kinda dig'em.
Yeah, I've been here for a while (SuperDork, FTW!). Luckily it has prepared me for dealing with the nuts over on the 924board (like Rasta, Smoothie, etc) as they got nothing on the folks here.
Remember the scene from Air America where the new guy tells Mel Gibson that he's used to being the weirdest guy in the room and when he showed up there, he wasn't any longer? Yeah that's basically how I feel here, heh.
Air America quotes on IMDB Now I'm going to have watch that movie again. Seems like a great thing to do during the rain this weekend. Funny how Bob Kelso from Scrubs and Major Lemond from the movie are played by the same guy and Kelso occasionally talks about his trysts with women overseas..... sorry got a little off-topic there.
If you keep the 4-bolt style brakes. You can use 4x4.25" wheels (watch the backspacing) available on Mustangs, or 4x108mm from early Escorts, etc. The brakes won't be as good as the later model Porsches, but that just means you have learn to brake earlier and carry more speed through the corners.
For now i plan on keeping them. And thanks for the pads by the way. I greatly appreciate it :)
Looks like i may need new rotors though. I can try and resurface the ones that are on there, i'm not sure if it'll do much good though.
No problem. I know the Axxis pads are supposed to be pretty good. Too bad I can't use em.
I don't think you can cut those rotors very much and it may be cheaper to replace them.
Check out RockAuto.com among others and price out some parts.
Hmm roughly $50-80 depending on the rotors i want.
Since they are non-vented rotors. I don't know that there is much that can be cut from the rotors before they are too thin.
ah, they're solid? never noticed that. those suckers must be heavy.

924s are cool, no matter what any one else says. And those wheels look especially good on black. Nice score. You don't find that many black 924s; I'm pretty sure it cost more to buy a black one.
OK, sure, they're heavy and under-powered, but so is a 944 and there's lots of love for those. ;-)
You can probably find a 944 parts car cheap and score suspension, brakes, wheels and who knows what else. Get an 1983-1985.5 and you'll get interior parts, too!
Anyway, welcome to GRM!
just remember. if you don't know the answer but grm calls on you anyway, just say "miata".
Welcome to the board. I have been a member long enough to know a good person when they say 924
Just to add to belteshazzar if the answer ISN'T Miata its BMW.
Cheers

To add further: if all else fails, hit it with a hammer. A really big one, if possible. You may hear this process referred to as "Schroedering" after one of GRM's staff members.
