... build a hot-rodded Geo Metro hatch?

Beef up the engine, grabby clutch, maybe forced induction, upgrade the suspension, Minilites with good rubber...

Is there something wrong with me?

Yes, and it's contagious!

(Make a build thread so the rest of us can avoid catching it)

Maybe a little something like this. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/vehicles-trailers-sale/1618938-1995-geo-metro-combat-edition-off-road-use-only.html

Why not a CRX, an Isuzu Impulse, or a Subaru Justy? It just seems like there are so many cooler cars out there :P

I can tell you how and save you a lot of time in the process.

DrB: Not exactly what I was thinking of, though that's a cool rig. More like this, but lower...

Des: Cooler, yes, there are. Geos are easy to find, though, and generally pretty cheap. I'd rather have a dopey car for cheap and spend ludicrous piles of money trying to make it cool than just buy a cool car to start with. Just ask my wife.

ZW: I'm going to message you for more info.

Is an '87 Toyota Corolla hatch cooler?

I love it when threads include the word "crazy" in them.

I can also tell you how to do it for challenge money or less.

If you can find one, look for a Suzuki Swift GT (GTi), or a regular 4 cylinder Swift. Gets you and extra cylinder to work with, and the GT gets you a extra cylinder and DOHC. It will all go into a Metro if the swift if rotted.

I had a stock 96 metro, it was a blast for what it was. No 3 point turns needed ever, ebrake turns where fun also but not needed, cruise at 75 mph and get 45 mpg, keep it at 65 and get almost 50 (pull up the ebrake 1 notch to turn off the DRLs). Drive it around town, with yout foot in it and still get 45 MPG. Park it any where.

I had mine in 2005, to bad they go for more now than they did then...

John, you are not crazy. You are crazy for convincing a fool to restore a truck. Otherwise, you're cool. I have wanted a GTI like I can't even describe, even though there are faster and safer cars out there. It's a neat idea.
