Our tastes change with age. I think back to when in high school and college, then try to remember where I acquired the crack that I was smoking.

I gave away the Magnaflow muffler with the 4" tip that came with a 92 Prelude I bought when I found a stock muffler in good shape off a 96 at the Pick-n-pull to replace it. Made driving that car a much more pleasant experience. I'm old too.
Every time I drive my mustang with stock interior, stock seats, stock exhaust, and a 1" drop a long distance I find my self wondering how much Cadillac Spec Vs are going for these days. I may be getting old too.
I find as I get older I still like loud fast cars, just ones that are newer that I don't have to work on. Now get off my lawn!

Dang it - beat me to it.
But Get OFF MY LAWN!
Yes maturing and refining our automotive tastes with the rest of us older than mid 20's not in our mid 30's yet age group. No loud cars or motorcycles for me. Sleeper. Fly under the radar. Oh and comfort! Musn't forget that.
I was old back in 2003 when I took the wing off my new STi... I guess I'm ancient now.
That was fast.

They are also much less of a cop magnet that way too!!
*** Please note the rather loud full 3" TBE from Lachute Performance peaking out from under the rear bumper. I owned it 3 years and was never even once looked at by a police officer. Guys with wings get pulled over all the time.
I pulled the screamingly loud UUC exhaust off my E36 M3 in favor of a far more tame AA exhaust. Let me tell you how much happier I am now.
I like the benefits the open intake on my KTM gives me but wish it wasn't so damn loud...
I know the feeling. i test drove an SVT focus a week or so back and when i met the guy to test drive it, found out that a previous owner had replaced the resonator with a piece of straight pipe. it had also been repainted (looked really nice, solid 10 foot job) but had painted the hood and roof black instead of silver. about 10 seconds into the test drive i realized i can't drive anything that obnoxious anymore, even if it is a blast to drive.
I ended up with a perfectly practical (and totally stock) 06 mazda3i 5speed. the boring and responsible thing to do...
btw, good to see a lot of familiar names on here still.
Older should = wiser. No need to add non-functional tack-ons to my car, or broadcast my mods to the entire world. As the "Assassin" Brock Yates used to say....... "Run Silent, Run Deep" (it's an old submariner's term) I still like to go fast, but no one needs to know about it except for me. And docwyte---- I also run the AA cat-back on my E36 M3, and love it! It sounds great when you want it to, and is unobtrusive when you are just cruising.
When I was young, I ran Grateful Dead stickers on my car, had loud exhaust, aftermarket rims, and was basically a big shiny lure for the police. These days I prefer a lower profile---- Lures are for fish.
Joe, I love the AA exhaust. I'm also a fan of the Supersprint exhaust, sounds good but nice and quiet when cruising.
My car isn't really a wall flower though between the OEM lightweight wing with risers and my race numbers...
^^ Doc--- That wing is functional for a car that is tracked. Can't have an issue with that. I find big wings on non-track cars kind of silly, but to each his (or her) own.
We all modify cars to our own taste. What I like, you may not and vice /versa. I'm a form follows function kinda guy--- not everyone is, and that's ok.
In reply to Joe Gearin: previous quote 'lures are for fish' BWaHahahahaaaaa!!!!! even if I pulled all the badges off the 'V'(CTS) the flared fenders/raised hood are the give away....oh and maybe perhaps the tad taller third light/spoiler
Wrx without spoiler looks naked IMO. And not "oh sweet a cheerleader naked" good naked. More like "i know something belongs here but I can't quite put my finger on it" naked. My blue 02 was wingless and I would have added one had it not been an ill conceived pile of trash that I should have stayed away from.
Today we fit a bench (halfway) into the trunk. The spoiler added enough downforce that no bungee was needed to keep the decklid down on bumps. So, +1XP for spoiler
